The Japanese have a little New Year tradition called HATSUYUME:
Which basically involves remembering what you dreamt on New Years Eve. There is a long list of lucky symbols to look for, but the gist of it is that what you dream will give you an indication of what your year will be like.

I would love to hear about everyones new years dreams lucid or not.

A good start would be remembering my dreams tonight.  I'll be taking notes if I have any recall, as I'll be offline for a couple days.

Happy New Year, everybody!

You could have visited me Tongue, but with my shy recall, I probably wouldn't know.

sorry to reply so late:

Heres a link for those interested in the basic origins of hatsuyume.
http://maki.typepad.com/justhungry/2009/01/the-first-dream-of-the-year.html
and for those who missed the original link i posted to a Wiki listing the symbols, here they are:

The top most lucky symbols:
1. Mt Fuji
2. A Hawk
3. An Eggplant
4. A Fan
5. Tobacco
6. Blind Buddhist Monk

As for the rest, i would have to do some real digging, however the Japanese seem to focus mostly on the first 3.

Unfortunately since this list is so specific to Japanese culture of the Edo period, we may not be finding ourselves dreaming of any of the above, let alone at New Years Eve (lol, says the lucid dreamer).
So i'll end this post with how i interpret the Hatsuyume.
I see it as a "just for fun" sort of thing, where i simply pay a little more attention to my first dream of the year. Depending on what appears in the dream, i sort of interpret it myself, based on my own beliefs and possibly the superstitions of our culture.
As for how my year will go, that is up to me, but maybe if i dream of a fat goldfish, some money might flow into my bank account.
(in Chinese tradition, goldfish = money and fortune)...

Well I don't think I've dreamed of any of those in recent memory.  SOmething is probably lost in cultural translation anyway, so Mt Fuji is the the Japanese as ... (what?) ... is to me?  Or maybe I'm really not going to have a good year.

(tries to remember....)

In Scottish culture, flying means fame, rugged coastlines means fortune and twilight means happiness.  Now, what did I dream of?  Oh, yes, flying over a rocky coastline in semi-darkness.   Tongue
