PLANE!

driving back from somewhere
mom and i in the car
and i am heading north
past where i need to turn
as it seems overly crowded on that road
and so it seems is where we're heading
towards the airport
and i see a light
we need to stop
and i inch forward
anxious to get home
and just then i see
a 747
just buzzing us overhead
on a collision course with the ground
starting about 40 feet behind us
the descent at about a 45 degree angle
large engine overhead
obliterating everything behind us
time moves slowly forward
as i watch it descend into what appears
to be an ever growing fireball
in my rear-view mirror
and just then
the light turns green

SEX AND VOILENCE

i'm in my basement
there's a violent storm outside
kicking up quite a fuss
a hurricane?
i don't know
but i'm monitoring the trees
in the backyard
and notice them bending quite far

in the back bedroom
at mom's house

with baseball bats in hand
walking in line
and as they approach, i say
"dude, dude, dude, dude!"
and ask them specifically about the car
at the same time getting the feeling
they lost theirs
and they are going out looking...
we exchange some reasonable words
and then they head off
and i go back inside
monitoring out the front window

now i see cars skidding up the street
in the snow and slush
having a hard time of it
and the feeling of
a lack of control
comes closer and closer to me
first the car
then...

an older cadillac is driven
directly into a snow drift
but misses my mom's mailbox and fence
and it is ass up in the air
wanting to wait it out to see what he does
he backs up the car surprisingly
but not straight
and hits a brick planter near the fence
then trying a small k-turn
he goes forward and hits the brick mailbox
and then k-turns it out of the snow
all beat up
leaving a trail of destruction on our driveway

but has to stop in traffic
of other cars being stuck
and then it happens
one by one
each car hits each other
small movement amplified
and pretty soon it is like
a demolition durby
people frustrated so much
just beating the shit out of each other's car
but ultra-violent
and getting SO bad
people getting out of the cars
and banging
destroying
just a sick sadness going through me
coarsing through my blood
and a riot in the street

OUTTA GAS

going south on the main road
away from mom's house
on our way into town
i suddenly remember
i need gas

i look down to see
the remaining miles are "1"
and i panic
first thinking of backing up
as we just passed a station
but one more comes into sight
just on the right

and i pull around
and back up to the pump
5 or 6 hispanic guys working there
all yelling for me to go to
a specific pump
and back up so my ass is low
a large step down
i stop before i hit it

THE OLD FLAME

i am in a hotel room
with my wife and friends
and they mention a ski trip
a slight change of plans
but i hear g likes it
'g?? inside the hotel room??'

initially i'm naked
and not bothered by it
and now i skirt past everyone
into my room
and trying to find shirts for skiing
but i can't find the cool ones i packed
and trying more and more
to find... a little frantic
ai tells me to ask g to the beach
she knows i would like a date with her
and so she tells me to have confidence
that she will want to go out
'but won't she be sad not to ski?'

i hear she's an actress now
and in a drama
so i quickly change clothes
something with shorts
and see g on t.v.
at the beach
and now i am there with her
and she is happy to be with me
her voice is cute
she is older
clearly older than 15 years ago
but lovely
and she starts to get sad
and speak in german
to another man
while crying
on her beach blanket
and i don't know what to do
i need to forget about her

i need to forget about her again
so i'm at a counceler
and she tells me
we're taking a lunch break
from our session
and i find myself walking outside
and i don't want to walk far
but my counceler tells me
to go to the road
and take the bus one stop
to the west
maybe this will help
and we can reconvene

so i go into the bus
and the driver is a maniac
i realize i have to tell him
when and where to stop
and now we are far away
he passes small school busses
on the right
near a bridge
and i yell out to stop for me

the neighborhood doesn't look good
old buildings and factories
not used anymore and decaying
as he grinds to a stop
i see a church almost buried
sunken into the ground
and i mention to him how cool
it will be to walk by
'i've never done it before' i say
trying to make believe this is my plan

but yet, i have to walk so far
and i just don't want to forget
my guitar and package i had with me
the bus doors close
and i don't have them with me
panic ensues
and i run for the bus
at top speed
waving my hands
screaming
it is getting to be night
and i fear he doesn't see me
running through my mind
deserted, far away
without my stuff
i give up hope
and just then
the bus makes a u-turn
and comes back to me

i tell him about my stuff
and he looks
there isn't anything there
so he checks me
'are you on something boy?'
and he starts to question me more
pushing me against the fence
and checking my breath
he is sure i am drugged
and perhaps i am
i am in therapy, right?

and the image of the machine
goes through my mind
the one i am analyzing at work
the slow drip of morphine
or was it ether?
into the breathing supply
that i was hooked up to
before lunch break

SQUEEZE CONCERT

i am in england
and walking around alone
in a park
and making eye-contact
with a bunch of people
and each of them are
all very non-pretentious
just like M said
about his trip to germany
and the main reason
he loved it

"damn, M's right!"
and so enjoying it
i start randomly flirting
with hawt english chicks
one of which stands out
wearing next to nothing
bikinish top
and shorts below
curled long blondish hair
and a pretty cute face
touches my arm
and tells me
of a concert
just down a ways

i walk further
and go through the tix booth
and now hearing
"medicine man" by BJH
being played
and i realize it is a cover
and a damn good one
i am now with A and A from work
and we see a stockade fence
blocking us from the band

i walk over to the fence
where many people are huddled
looking through the cracks
to see who's playing this
and i notice it is squeeze
you know... the band who did
"tempted by the fruit of another"
in the 80's
but i don't get
the concert setup
with the fence
odd

A and A help guide us
around the fence
and into a near-stage area
font row indeed
and all 3 of us are there
one A with his video recorder
me with my camera
the other A with a beer

and we are standing right at
the leader's face
he's a keyboardist / singer
and still playing medicine man
or maybe a medly of this and others
and at some point
only his eyes
exist for him
only his shades?
and his body fades as it plays
hands still on the keys

not noticing the oddity of this
and the fact that he is now a she
i get my camera ready for a pic
of him playing keys
when the music stops
and the lead
now a woman in a lime green dress
nicely fitting with big white dots
starts to walk from around
the small half-height barrier
and show us her full body
and i nudge A to get a vid of this

not being quick enough
he misses the opportunity
and she continues talking
to us and the crowd behind the fence
back at her keys
and letting all know
how much this concert means to them all

i notice another member
laying a background keyboard melody
backing her speech
and just then
he falls
his keys
onto guitars
and he goes down
but he seems calm...

the lead stops talking to the crowd
checks in on her bandmate
and the man shows his crushed
black and blue foot
disgusting
and now the concert is cancelled
understandably

we are escorted out from the fence
and we talk to each other
how unfortunate an accident this was
but how cool the first tune was

Been gone, now I'm back; thought I'd come see if the baby was here yet.   

[analyst]

hey MB!  not yet!  she is just trying to hide out inside there for a while it seems.  we are now 2 days past due.  the induction is scheduled for the 12th, but if something opens up next week, they'll do it then.  or of course if the baby wants out... we'll do it whenever it wants to! 

it's been like sitting on the edge of a cliff.... LOL.  always prepared to turn the car around and head to the hospital!

Oh OK; I think being late is pretty common, especially for the first baby.  She'll come out eventually!  That is stressful til it happens, I imagine.

Have you told us what you are going to name her?  (Whisper it to me if you don't want to say it out loud!)

I'm fine.  Just got back from a pretty good visit with my family in MO, and still have a few days off work.  Summer time in WI is very nice.

in a booth
two person booth
and i leave the booth
to perform something
but i hear some insect-like sound
from around me
and i see a giant
prehistoric looking
dragonfly
and i run like hell
around the kitchen
and finally back to a safe table
and close the curtain

HOSPITAL RUN

from my view
there's several people
across the street
and ai ends up
walking away from me
over and behind me
to a 7-11
and i'm left in festival mode
drinking my beer
and reading a book
or something

when suddenly a splash of water
arrives at my feet
and i look up to find
that one of these guys
fucking huge he is
starts taunting me
and i think
"i can take him"

my anger rises
and i lean in to address him
and just then he pulls out
a colt revolver
with 8" barrel
from behind him
and holds it in the air
while looking at me

i freak
and start running
thinking to get ai
and i do notice
this revolver
is a cig lighter

but no matter
run
tearing back
across the parking lot
i think i see ai
but it's not her
and i end up in a hospital
running still
with a beer bottle
i notice myself
in some sort of clean ward
blue and white only
futuristic
odd doors
almost like a spacecraft
and i try to blend
ditching the beer bottle

boom
i awake
