A thread to discuss recently watched movies, old, new, borrowed, blue.
Uh... on second thought, skip the blue movies.
Just tell us about the latest movie you saw and why you liked or didn't like it. No spoilers please.

Just got home from watching the 2019 film version of Cats. Trailer: (
It was very creepy at times and the acting made me feel uncomfortable. I didn't like the cgi-ness of the cats at all. However I did get drop kicked in the feels by some of the singing which is something major. Rarely do I get emotional at a movie, especially in a public theater.
So, I didn't like it visually but musically I was touched. I'm kind of worried what my dreams will be like tonight.

Cool. Does this include shows? I actually watch more shows than movies now days but I get a movie in here and there.

Yesterday I was intending to watch some of the second season of the "Lost In Space" reboot that just came out on Netlfix the day before Christmas. The first season was wonderful and have been looking forward to the new season. But I ended up watching "Doom" Instead. A movie based off the first person monster shooter video game. The movie was kind of cheesy but I enjoyed it anyway because I have the virtual reality version of the game and its a lot of fun in VR. Using the  gun  controller that feels like a rifle in your hands when you are holding it in VR. Anyway the movie reminded  me a lot of the game so it was fun to watch. And there was some fun monster action. I thought it might influence my dreams too.

Season three of "Outlander" came to Netflix recently and I'm going to be watching that soon. Watched the first two seasons that were available when I was on my two week vacation in November. Based on the first two seasons, the show very well be my number one favorite of all time.

Well, the show is a fantasy, romantic, action adventure about a women from the 1940s that gets somehow magically pulled through time through the standing rock formations at some Stonehenge type of location. She gets transported to old Scotland sometime in the 1800s. While trying to figure out how to get back home to her own time, she gets caught up in an incredible, very intense, and romantic adventure with a band of Scotish rebels that are revolting against tyranny. And there is some very beautiful imagery of the Scotland countryside. But just a warning to anyone interested in checking it out, it's very sexual. And some pretty disturbing scenes as well. It's about as mature as a mature rated show can get, I think.

I watched the first couple of seasons of Outlander too and was addicted for a while. I didn't watch it at first because I thought it would be some super sappy lovey dovey fairytale type show. Boy was I wrong. lol Actually, last year ... or two years ago now? for season four they were searching for Native American actors for the show and I was going to head to auditions but I was in still very much enrolled in my university course and the dates conflicted with important dates in my course. The world will have to wait for a little while longer for me to become a major celebrity.

Well when you do make it big try not to forget the rest of us little folk.

Outlander doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but I do know someone who might dig it if they aren't already familiar. Will pass it on.

I recently got a budget chromebook that came with a couple months free of Disney Plus, and I went back and watched some OG Star Wars movies. Until now I'd only seen the first one all the way through, so it was a weird ride seeing some of the origins of a bunch of star wars tropes I'd already gotten familiar with through games and other spinoff material. Also made me appreciate why Empire Strikes Back is considered so good, I'd watch that one again gladly.
: Re: Flixated
: Wędajihs January 09, 2020, 11:22:54 PM
Watched 'The Rise of Skywalker' again but this time in Dbox. Made the movie about 23% more fun to watch. I hate to say it but the last three Star Wars movies were like someone's fanfiction. I thought I was nuts to feel that way but when I saw other people felt the same way I didn't feel as crazy. The Rise of Skywalker still felt super fanfictiony but at least this film catered to the fan base more than the last one did. We fans appreciate a good caterin' to.

Not too long ago I had the amazing opportunity to see Star Wars in Concert: The Empire Strikes Back. It was a whole new and awesome way to experience the movie. The live music was perfectly set to the movie. And it was even better because the theater was packed full of SW fans who all laughed and reacted in unison to all the same parts in the movie. I've never felt such a strong bond to other SW fans. It was my best nerd herd experience to date. If you ever get the chance to do it, see Star Wars in Concert. /not sponsored or blackmailed in any way to give the aforementioned testimony to SW in Concert

: Caradon January 21, 2020, 05:21:59 PM
Wow Star wars in concert that would be awesome...

I watched a Michael Bay action movie last night called 6underground. It was about 6 special agents with different specialized skills that fake their own deaths. Being legally dead they are free to go after and kill the most evil dictators of the world. One of the characters was a parkour master which was really cool. It was fun crazy over the top action. I'm not real familiar with Michael Bay movies except for the Transformers movies. I could definitely see the similarities in the style of the action in this movie as in the Transformers movies. There was some really wild stuff going on at times.

Might have to check that one out. Sounds LD inducing.

Prior to all the recent life crisis, I binge watched AJ and the Queen on netflix. It's about a troubled kid who starts hanging out with a drag queen. Kind of slightly like a modern but prolonged Pricilla Queen of the Desert. It's funny and sad and kept my interest, which is hard for television shows to do anymore.

: Re: Flixated
: Caradon January 23, 2020, 07:40:27 AM
There is a lot of really good shows though. For me it's been more difficult finding movies that I like a lot.
Been trying to watch season three of Outlander I don't know what happened to that show. The first two seasons were so great, so intense and adventure filled. Season three has been painfully boring, nothing at all going on. Seven episodes so far of pure nothing, literally. Can't think of a single interesting thing that has happened yet.
: Re: Flixated
: Wędajihs January 24, 2020, 10:28:56 PM
I hear ya about the movies. Almost every time I see a movie I feel as if I've wasted my time, sanity, and money.

Haven't been to a movie in a while. Think I will try to catch one this weekend.
: Re: Flixated
: Caradon January 28, 2020, 05:02:42 PM
I've not been to the theater in quite a while. I used to love the theater but I started preferring the relaxing atmosphere of my living space. And if I want to watch something on a theater sized screen I have my VR headset which projects a theater sized screen out in front of you to watch movies on.  And also plays 3D blu-rays which I have an okay collection of. Right now I'm having a hard time enjoying the house and just staying in my tent which has been calming.

I've just been laying in the dark in my tent watching a show I started yesterday called Ozark It's a pretty good show if a little slow at times, just something about it that holds the attention. First episode was intense. Just about done with the first of two seasons. It's about a guy that gets caught up with money laundering for the cartels. His partner was stupid and stole money from the cartels and got himself killed. The main character barely convinces the cartels that he is worth keeping alive. Now he is in a constant state of desperately trying to prove his continued worth in order to keep his wife and kids from being killed.

: Wędajihs January 29, 2020, 11:15:14 PM
I go to the movie theater when I want to get out of the house but not do anything strenuous. Also, the movie theater experience is enjoyable for me, massive screen, surround sound, and sometimes seats that move with the movie. Popcorn and candy, sort of like being a kid again except everything is probably a thousand percent more expensive than when I was a kid.

Tonight watched 'The Turning'. Synopsis: A young governess is hired by a man who has become responsible for his young nephew and niece after the deaths of their parents. The Turning is a modern take on Henry James’ novella “The Turn of the Screw”, produced by Steven Spielberg.

Was a very slow movie and not scary in the least, not even suspenseful. Lots of uncomfortable scenes scattered between too many scenes of people just walking and/or searching. The actors did a decent job considering there isn't very much depth to the dialogue or plot. This is a movie we should have saved for 'cheap night'.

Best thing about the experience, my R2D2 is still scoring me a free regular combo. I only have a couple of days left of him providing me with free junk food. There better be a good movie coming out Friday.

Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. Not the deepest movie ever made but nor is it the shallowest. Much better than a lot of the comic based movies I've seen lately. Looking for a couple of hours of sheer mindless entertainment? Give this movie a look see.

: Re: Flixated
: Caradon February 14, 2020, 01:39:46 PM
I've heard of that. I wonder if it's on Netflix.

I watched a horror movie with one of the dumbest ideas ever. A demonic camera that kills the people that get pictures taken of them with it. It's called "Polaroid."
As dumb as then idea is, they somehow made it kind of fun to watch anyways.

I finished watching season three of "Outlander" It got a lot more fun again after episode 7 when they started adventuring again. I think maybe they should shorten the seasons. Don't really need seven hours of slow build up before the fun begins. It was good though, once it finally got going.

Saw the Invisible Man a couple of weeks ago, or last week maybe? I don't even remember. It was interesting. Nothing to brag about. If you've ever been in an abusive relationship, this movie might be a tad triggering.
: Re: Flixated
: Caradon March 18, 2020, 04:45:09 AM
Someone at work was talking about The Invisible Man.  I thought he was talking about the Kevin Bacon one at first. But I think he was talking about the same one you are.

I was watching an interesting Docuseries on Netflix called Pandemic. First episode features a lady that was saying she had watched the movie "Outbreak in 1995" And became obsessed with the possibility of a new pandemic and dedicated her life to researching how to detect and stop one and now she is basically the head of the CDC.

The documentary was made before this outbreak began. Kind of an earie moment where she says something along the lines of. "We don't know where when or how a new flu pandemic is going to begin. But we do know that it will." Kind of earie hearing her say that, because now it is.

Also kind of interesting that they say all the really deadly ones come from animals because the ones from animals are pretty alien to our immune systems, and our bodies don't know how to handle them. Not sure if true or not but I heard someone at work saying this new one came from bats. Someone ate a bat and got sick or some such and started the whole thing. But I don't know for sure, you know how rumors go. Everything gets twisted and people make shit up.

Lies! This is all caused by a bio warfare project gone out of control.  :paranoid:

Here, there is a theory that this was caused to cover up something else that is going on in the world. I can't say if it is or it isn't... but I know humans. Humans, especially rich ones, are assholes. And assholes are always up to something. There's asshole-ery afoot. Mark my words.
: Re: Flixated
: Caradon March 20, 2020, 06:30:51 PM
I've been reading a lot of stuff lately, yeah there are a lot of theories about that going around. But it's hard to know what is true and what isn't.

I've been watching a pretty good, but sad movie called Aftermath. Arnold Schwarzenegger is in it. Arnold plays a guy who loses his wife and daughter to a mid air plane collision due to a bad air traffic control mistake/accident. It's a good movie though should probably be watching something more cheerful. But it randomly popped up and decided to check it out.

Watched 'Ready Player One' last night. The nostalgia was fun but the storyline under it made me wonder how many people will be escaping into the internet more than usual over the next two weeks, and made me hope that people are being safe online. There are likely predators out there poised and ready to pounce on the vulnerable.

Sorry I went there but my mind is not in the nicest place now. I'm trying to keep a good mind. I should watch more up beat movies as well.

: Caradon March 21, 2020, 06:53:26 PM
I never saw that but looking forward too at some point.

Ozark season three is coming to Netflix in a couple of days. Looking forward to binging that. The first two season were pretty good even though the beginning of season 2 was a bit slow paced for me but it got good. Season three looks like it will be good. It's a quality well made show with good acting and some tense drama.

I watched the very first episode of the original Star Trek the other day. It was actually enjoyable despite the extremely outdated quality of the costumes and special effects. I got into it enough to watch the entire episode. And to my surprise it had a dreaming element to it. I watched some of the originals when I was a kid when they were on TV. But I don't really remember much of it. I thought it would be fun to watch the very first Star Trek episode ever made.

I found a really good show called Money Heist. I normally can't handle foreign shows because I struggle with the most times terrible voice over acting on non English speaking shows. But this one the voice overs are not too terrible most of the time, except when this one guy laughs is horrible and stupid sounding. lol The show itself is excellent. I've watched 9 episodes so far since I started it last night and I was into it right away from the start of Episode 1. Loving it.

I'm hoping this show will be a gateway for me to be able to enjoy more foreign stuff because there is so much of it on Netflix and some that look really good. But as mentioned the voice over actors usually sound so bad it's too difficult to watch. But hopefully Money Heist will help me to get used to watching dubbed material so can enjoy it more.

Finished three seasons of "MONEY HEIST"

Brilliant fun show from Spain. Has a little bit of everything. Action, adventure, drama, romance, some good humor. Fun characters. Looks like another season is coming early April, the 3rd I think it said.

A criminal mastermind has a long time plan he designed to take a mint hostage. He recruits a group of people to train and pull it off. The plan, to take the mint hostage, and then toy with and delay the authorities for as long as possible while inside the mint they use the money making machines to print as much money as they can before making their escape with the newly printed and untraceable cash. A lot of twists and turns, and of course some unexpected obstacles to the plan to overcome.

Finished the first two seasons of Breaking Bad. Now I see why the show has so many rave reviews. The end of season two was way intense, awful, but really intense drama. I put off watching the show for the longest time wondering how a show about a meth dealer could be as good as everyone claims and probably not my kind of thing. But it's more complex than that. And a lot different than I expected.
: Re: Flixated
: Wędajihs April 06, 2020, 07:59:59 AM
I still haven't watched Breaking Bad either. I'm trying to stay away from shows because I don't want to binge watch just yet.

After all these years I finally watched Sharknado.
: Re: Flixated
: Caradon April 07, 2020, 04:26:39 PM
Sharknado lol. I still have not seen that either.

I finished all five seasons of Breaking Bad. And the El Camino movie which is just a continuation to wrap up the storyline of one of the main characters. For some strange reason instead of having two more episodes to the season, they made a two hour movie that starts right where the final episode of season 5 ends. The show was as fantastic as everyone always says it is.

I watched a little bit of "Better Call Saul" which is a prequel spin off to "Breaking Bad" Mainly focused on the lawyer character Saul I guess. It's started out pretty good, funny.

I watched a really cool new zombie movie called "The Girl With All The Gifts." It was really good except the ending was unsatisfying to me and left me hanging and disappointed. But otherwise I liked it a lot. A different and interesting twist on the zombie virus idea. And the apocalyptic settings were visually fantastic. Especially the city overgrown with plant life looked amazing.  But it just ended too abruptly without much of an ending. Maybe there will be a sequel that continues and expands on it. That would be good then.

So, after I said I'm trying to not binge watch, I watched all of Tiger King in two days. lol I just could not get over how twisted everything and everyone was in that show, documentary, whatever the hell it was that I exposed my poor brain to. Humans...  :shakehead:

I never heard of him either. It was the first pick in the popular section so I decided to watch one episode because I had nothing better to do at the time. And the damn thing hooked me.
: Re: Flixated
: Caradon April 20, 2020, 02:28:20 PM
I'm looking forward to season 4 of "The Last Kingdom" coming April 26. It's one of my favorite shows on Netflix. Hopefully the new season is as good as the rest of it was.

I watched all of "WACO." That was really good. 6 episodes, felt like a long movie. I never knew much of anything about what happened there. Just thought it was some stand off with militia fanatics or something. If real events were anything like the what happened in the show it was pretty messed up.

Started watching "Shooter" last night just stumbled across it as I was looking through TV shows. That has been really good so far. I think watching it influenced some of my earlier action dreams I was having last night but didn't recall very well.
: Re: Flixated
: Wędajihs April 21, 2020, 10:46:15 AM
I'll catch Waco next time I feel like binging.

I recently watched True Terror with Robert Englund, scary and paranormal stories in the newspapers from 1900's and earlier.

Last night I started the Holzer files. A paranormal researcher from 50 years ago had loads of investigation files. The show is a new group of people going back to the places he investigated decades ago to check out the paranormal activity, if any, that is still there. The show also has input from Holzer's children too, which gives it a much more human touch, I think.
: Re: Flixated
: Caradon April 21, 2020, 04:24:18 PM
Well can always watch a little at a time. But you know how that goes when you start getting into it.

Cool, I was recently thinking about the lady I know that actually does paranormal investigating. She said she would take me along sometime. Maybe I'll take her up on that if this pandemic thing is ever over. Since my puppy is gone of course no reason to be home, I can go ghost hunting... I'd love to see something real that convinces you beyond doubt hauntings are real. She works for a local paranormal agency, I didn't know there was one. And she told me she actually knows the guys from the ghost hunters cable show.
: Re: Flixated
: Wędajihs April 25, 2020, 12:43:54 PM
Do it! I've been on a few paranormal investigations and they're interesting if you're also interested in the history of the place and have someone on hand to tell about it. Before the pandemic I was saving up money to go on an investigation at the Ohio State Reformatory aka 'the Shawshank Prison'. Luckily I didn't purchase the tickets yet. I'm still going to go but only when I feel safe about the pandemic situation, not when the leaders say it's okay because frankly, their true colors are blazing like wild fires and I don't possess an iota of trust in any of them.

But yes, paranormal investigate down the road when it's safe again and when you get the chance.
: Re: Flixated
: Caradon April 25, 2020, 09:18:54 PM
That sounds like it would be fun... Yeah, I'd live to. I don't think I want to travel anywhere to do it but if something comes up in the area I would like to tag along and see what happens. I'll talk to her about it if/when I see her again. I don't know if she has been working or what. But I could always contact her through the website too if I don't see her at work again.

I saw that there is a documentary about the Carona virus coming to Netflix tomorrow/Sunday too. Should be an interesting watch.
: Re: Flixated
: Caradon April 27, 2020, 04:02:03 PM
The new documentary Caronavirus explained was alright but very short and didn't say much of anything anyone even vaguely following events doesn't already know so kind of pointless. The better documentary show on Netflix to watch is called Pandemic which I watched a few episodes of when this all started.

Checked out Waco. Stayed up till 3 am to finish it off. I unintentionally sympathized with the Branch Davidians because the governments do all the same demented and heartless things to minorities all over the world. It's happening still and I honestly think the governments are using the Covid crisis to trample and spit on the rights of people even more.

Yeah, the government were definitely the bad guys in that show. Wondering how much of that was an accurate depiction of events. It could have been very similar to what really happened or not even close... Who knows.

Been watching Vampire Diaries. It's kind of a fun show but wondering if I'm the only one that's watched it and thinks it's a little disturbing how they are depicting really old vampire guys having sex with under age high school girls.  And a show directed at teen viewers with non stop alcohol consumption. They are constantly pouring whiskey or having some kind of drink in their hands and doing shots at the bar. Even under age kids working at the bar serving alcohol. Just seems weird normalizing so much alcoholism directed at teen viewers.  It's not just a little bit of drinking here and there, it's constantly.  Watching so much drinking started making me even crave to go buy a bottle of whiskey and I don't even like drinking much anymore.
: Re: Flixated
: Caradon May 07, 2020, 07:28:58 PM
I keep thinking about how messed up Vampire Diaries is.  Stop it brain, it's just a TV show. Lol. It's just supposed to be fun and not taken that literal despites the fact it's about two, hundred plus year old alcoholic brothers living together and taking turns with a seventeen year old high school girl and written like a teen romance drama with a messed up love triangle. And their one thousand year old nemesis lusting after a girl that just turned 18 and screwing her in the forest before taking off to another city and leaving her.

But all the drinking is actually more disturbing. Seems kind of irresponsible on the part of the writers, like they are trying to purposely encourage and promote teenage alcoholism.

Edit: Just after making this post I put the show on.  It's morning Damon is in the kitchen making breakfast, spatula in one hand flipping pancakes. Can you guess what's in his other hand? A bottle of whiskey lol. He is chugging off the bottle with one hand while making breakfast flipping pancakes with the other. See what I'm saying lol. It's that way throughout the entire show.  Why? Very next scene after that. Elena's teenage brother is waking up from sleeping on the couch. Guess the first thing he does upon waking up.  Picks up a bottle of whiskey that is on the table and pours himself a glass of whisky and starts drinking it while talking to his roommate. I don't undertstand... Why so much non stop drinking in a show directed at teenage viewers.

Well despite my rant I think Vampire Diaries is pretty good over all, and there is some good heart felt issues they deal with.. About love and tragedy and loss and all that.

I was watching Secret Life Of Pets 2. Because I was enjoying something bright colorful happy and fun. And looks stunning on my Dell Inspiron with the animation option selected in the Del cinema colors.  I should start watching more animated movies.

Well, with only seven episodes left in the final season of Vampire Diaries. I'm having difficulty finishing it. I've been enjoying the show over all but it's just that. "Spoiler Alert"

Every character has gone back and forth from good to evil to good again so many times and so many characters have died and come back to life. It's just difficult to continue caring. Even though the show is still full of action and drama it's just so much of the same old same old that I keep tuning out on it and getting bored now. Losing interest in what the characters are dealing with. And right now in the show they have been hatching a plot to kill the devil which is a character that is already dead because he was murdered similar to a which burning by a village and ended up becoming the devil. So kind of confused about how you kill someone that is actually already dead. lol. I don't know, I'm tired right now which is also odd since I slept most of the day and only been awake less than four hours.

I watched a couple of episodes of Magic For Humans. It's fun but it seems like just a ripoff of Carbonaro Effect. Same thing, a guy using magic to pull practical jokes on unsuspecting people in public. That is always entertaining and funny though. Giving people some serious reality check moments.

People are talking about Dead to Me. Must be a good one.

I recently watched the Color Out of Space, starring Nick Cage. It was modernized, of course. Ages ago I read the story. I can't recall if the creatures in the movie were the same as the story... or if it even had such creatures at all. I got bored quickly, the characters were pretty wooden. Maybe they were going for the so normal that they're boring angle? Who knows. I watched the entire movie and was very unimpressed by the whole thing. I really wanted to like this one.

: Caradon May 23, 2020, 10:17:07 PM
Too bad. I hate when something you hope is going to be good and turns out boring.

I stumbled on a documentary called "Have A Good Trip: Adventures In Psychedelics. It was a good fun watch.

In the documentary there is a funny interview with Kerry Fisher/Princess Lea from Star Wars. I had no idea she was a total Acid head. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, given her age and era the Star Wars movies were made. But in knowing, I don't think I'm ever going to be able to see Star Wars the same way again.. lol. She wasn't just an occasional user, she was like the queen of LSD. She had an entire house with the idea of tripping on acid in mind and all it's decorations, and travelled all over the world looking for new fun places for her acid trips... She tells a funny story about a time she was tripping out of her mind, outdoors, practically completely naked for sure topless.
And suddenly a van pulls up full of tourist and they all get out and she standing there naked in front of them tripping out of her mind lol. She had had no idea she was at the place they stop for their lunch on their tour.

I watched "Sex Education." Stayed up way too late last night watching it. It's a really good show if you don't mind crude sexual humor. The show starts out as just a silly sexual based comedy but develops into a good drama story as the characters develop.  Between watching "Dead To Me." and "Sex Education." I think I really like this style/genre, I think they are calling dramedy. Funny and serious at the same time makes it more fun than something that is all serious focused drama.
