It's funny, we started out with slap-bug, but evolved to punch-bug on our own. You and johnb started out with punch-bug and slug-bug, I imagine for similar reasons (your predecessors realized that a slap was not as much fun as a punch.) So the violence escalated. I wonder what kids today are doing, "roundhouse kick to the head-bug"? "Stab in the heart-bug"? 

Probably totally non-violent these days. Hug-bug, or something like that.
There's only a small difference between "now a days" and "yesterdays" -the big difference has always been between pockets of violence and hobbit shires. Violence is always a surprise if you're not expecting it - silly hobbits!
