Hello!

My name is Tadas and I am an MSc student in Consciousness and Transpersonal Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University .

In my dissertation project I am exploring possibilities of creative problem solving in lucid dreams and I am looking for experienced lucid dreamers to join this study.

AIM: To explore possibility of creative problem solving in lucid dreams with the help of dream characters.

METHODS: The study will be carried out over the period of 10 consecutive days. Each night before going to sleep the participants will be given a creative task/problem to solve. They will be asked:
a) to memorise the problem before going to sleep
b) to induce a lucid dream (using preferred technique)
c) to find an old wise man/guru/spiritual guide figure in the dream
d) to ask him or her for help and ask for an answer to the given problem
e) to wake up and record the answer

PARTICIPANTS: Two groups will be used: lucid dreamers and a control group of non lucid dreamers. Participants should be 18+ years old.

Of course, I do not expect that the lucid dreamers will be able to have a lucid dream every night for 10 days in a row Smiley If you could have a lucid dream in 5 out of 10 nights, it would be fine, 3 would be OK as well.

There is a lack of scientific evidence in the area of lucid dreaming and I believe this could be an important and groundbreaking study and you could make history in lucid dreaming research!

So please do not hesitate to sign up!

If you have any questions please post it here and I will be more than happy to answer!

If you want to join this study, could you please send me an email to t.stumbrys@2008.ljmu.ac.uk with the following information:

1. Your age
2. Gender
3. Country of residence
4. How many lucid dreams do you usually have?
5. Do you have internet access at home?

Many thanks!

Tadas

I'll make a point of mentioning this in the next newsletter, coming up soon.

My own lucidity levels are presently so low as to make my participation pointless - but we have many here who should be able to help if they know you are looking!  You might follow the L in the daily DLF numbers up there and issue personal invitations to our more prolific dreamers.

And welcome to Mortal Mist!

I hate to burst your bubble, but enlisting the help of DCs for creative problem solving may not be the best way to go about this.  Dream characters are generally completely useless and spout random nonsense.

In fact lucidity might not help much either.  For best results, I'd recommend concentrating on the problem before bed to induce a regular dream.

Thank you pj.

The Cusp: Yes, I know there was some research done with problem solving and dream incubation techniques and it was quite successful but nobody has tried with lucid dreams. However I do believe that it could provide even better results. And it wouldn't be just asking random DCs to solve the problem, I have a bit more elaborate approach to this Smiley

Wow! What an MSc title.  I would love to do a course like that :( Jealous here! Thats amazing - I bet your enjoying that!

I would love to help but my personal best at LDing has been 1 LD per week for 1 month in the last 3 years and I manage about 1 DILD per month sort of reliably so I will be of no use myself!

Would be interested in reading the final paper though Wink so please link at MM to all your interesting findings!

Hi Namaste!

I will post a summary of my research if there would be any interesting findings.

And if you are interested in this MSc programme please check the website http://www.ljmu.ac.uk/psychology/72120.htm

I found it really interesting and rewarding. And there is also an online distance learning mode.

Hello:

I got your IM. Yes, I would be glad to participate. I will e-mail you the required data.

I can lucid dream quite easily, but I tend to not have many DC's in my dreams. But we'll see how it goes.

I'll be happy to help you out. Smiley

On the subject of DCs-- In my experience there are several different kinds of DCs. One type is just as Cusp says, and are usually not even capable of getting a single coherent sentence out. Other types ignore me completely. There are a few who are around a lot who DO speak intelligently who I can have actual conversations with. Those types, IMO, are too intelligent for me to consider them just DCs but for the purpose of a dream study I can drop the semantics stuff. I will try to seek them out for this.  content

I will try, but I'm not sure at all that I will succeed or contribute anything.

Yay, I'm excited! Grin

Maybe in the future MM will become a place to recruit LDers for studies and experiments.
