Chat not working
« on: September 09, 2010, 10:28:19 AM »
Just posting a chat issue that has come up. Tried clearing cache and refreshing but the error keeps coming up. Here's what I'm getting:

Code: [Select]
XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
Location: http://www.mortalmist.com/forum/chat/
Line Number 386, Column 73: <div id="copyright"><a href="https://blueimp.net/ajax/">AJAX Chat</a> &copy; <a href="https://blueimp.net">blueimp.net</a></div>
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------^

Just giving a heads up.

ETA: Getting Firebug up and running to see if any other errors pop up client-side, all I'm getting is "smileys is undefined" in line 3 of smiley.php, and that htmlTag is undefined in line 306 in chat.js.

Works for me, what browser are you using?  Did you update anything since the last time you were in chat?

I use Firefox on Ubuntu, and there did happen to be an update for it today. It did start to not work after I had updated it.

I had the same error before (http://mortalmist.com/forum/town-hall/insane-chaotic-new-chat-feature/msg88154/#msg88154), but it was gone after updating and restarting Firefox.
I too was using Ubuntu, btw.

And what do you know, another restart fixed things. It seems the restart I did after the update didn't take effect properly. Cheers for that.

My work here is done.  :smugbow:

Ok, so I didn't do anything.  :?

Chat is getting buggier and buggier for sure though.  For those not aware of it, work has begun on an all new chat system, so fixing minor and sporadic bugs isn't getting top priority (although certainly we'll make sure it's usable in the meantime.)

I think the hint about the smilies is related to the occasional smiley bar problem in the forum.  I think we're starting to have too many smilies.  We'll have to see if we can categorize them somehow, such that don't all come up and once.

Ask me anytime.  I have experience with a certain server running Fedora.  ;)
