Well, on this one I can cooberate Persinger.

I have the Shiva device, which comes with an ability to configure the SW and device to act as a God Helmet. Rather interesting. I didn't see "God" or anything. But when I've used it I did have some interesting hynogogic flashes, and an overall sense of warmth/love etc ... Kinda hard to explain. If someone was not familiar with this type of altered state of consciousness, I can see why they might interpret it as a presence or spiritual experience. I just didn't see it that way.

Interesting experience! Possibly could be due to the placebo effect. Would need to do lots of double-blind controlled experiments to find out for sure. Even if it is the placebo effect, it's a nice example of how the brain can get into such a wide variety of states of consciousness.

I believe that if you built a machine that keeps the brains most important functions working "Breathing/Heartbeat" but stopped all others/slowed them down, you would be a very rich person as many people would rather pay for lifetime subscriptions to the magic box that they can get frozen into while still alive experiencing total bliss every second of their life for the rest of their life. You would think they would get bored, but honestly anyone that's seen it knows that its timeless and you can't get bored, its the best feeling you could imagine always.

I wonder if these machines already exist and we are just not told about them.  :content:

Great idea! A meditation machine. Wonder if that's possible. Some people would probably say it'd be cheating to use a machine to instantly experience a state of consciousness that others have worked for years to achieve. But don't agree, assuming the machine wasn't harmful in any way.

Again, being told a "positively ancient" topic!

I had Dr. Persinger for first year psych! He was an interesting prof, and always carrying on experiments/studies.  For extra credit, we could fill in a calender with our moods, and at the end of the year, I was credited with an extra 5%!

Sounds like I should have taken more elective psych classes with him, instead of archeology or Roman Lit. in translation!  (Still glad I eventually got into Astronomy!  Helps to navigate while lucid!)

I'll bet he was fun to have as a professor! So you majored in astronomy? Astronomical LDs must be fun.

johnb - No, I didn't major in astronomy, just took it as an elective - very popular elective at the university, took until 3rd year to get in.  I'd always been interested, and did very well in it!  And yes, astronomical LDs are VERY fun!

Did you fly through galaxies, nebulae, or black holes?

I have through galaxies, and around them as well.  I have even been to the end of this universe - will have to copy my LDs from my email.
Will have to try the black hole - would get a great badge for that one :D

So, what's the end of the universe like? Probably not much there, right?

Pretty much - seemed very freaky to do that, but I did get there :)  And I just knew I was at the end...  But that was just "our" universe ;-D

OK, again, talking of coincidences - heard this on the "local" CBC radio station this morning  (FYI - CBC is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, publicly-funded TV and radio - like PBS in the US).

Wish I could be there for the event!  8)  (Hope the link works - brings you the their Facebook page)
