Sound induced lucid dream?
« on: May 08, 2008, 04:18:27 AM »
Not sure where to post it, please move if necessary.

Last night I listened to a podcast on my iPod while sleeping and suddenly I could hear the sound of the mp3 very clear in my dream! I was even making comments about it to my DCs.

This brought me to the conclusion that if I made a recording talking about lucid dreams, I could induce a lucid this way.
I never thought of using this, cause I was convinced you can't hear sounds from RL within your dream. But last night it sounded all so real! If only there was a word about lucid dreaming in the podcast...

Who has experience with using spoken text while dreaming to induce a lucid?

I've never used this to become lucid but there's merit to your idea.

Many times I have fallen asleep in front of the TV and had the audio of the TV find it's way into and influence the circumstances of my dreams.

Sara , I've used sound a couple of times to induce a lucid dream.  I've provided the links below because the dreams are quite lengthy:

about 50% of my Lucids were induced by audio file. Yes it had brainwave entrainment (I'm sure that help) but it also had affirmation statements such as:

"This is a dream"
"you are dreaming"
"do a reality check now"

These statements directly came into the dream (either) a dream character was saying it, or I could just hear it in the environment of the dream. So yes, it's been very successful for me at least.

Ah, good to hear some success stories about the sound induced lucid dream!
I wonder if this works so well, why not more people are using it... or is it not that reliable?

@Clairity: very special dreams! Thanks for placing the links!

@Phoenelai: you created an mp3 especially for this purpose, right? I couldn't download it, cause the link doesn't work anymore :(

I use sound files with affirmations on them all the time and have found them to be especially beneficial in helping to remember dreams.

I am currently using a sound file I made up with my own voice with the following suggestions which I have come on every 10 minutes during the first 60 minutes, so that they are not overpowering and keep me awake, then have them come on every 5 minutes for the next 30 minutes, then after 90 minutes have them repeat every 2 minutes.

Here's the suggestions I use.

Remembering all of your dreams upon awakening.
You remember all of your dreams upon awakening.
[pause]
You are dreaming!
You are dreaming!
You are dreaming!
[pause]
You are dreaming!
You are dreaming!
You are dreaming!

The dream recall suggestions work the best of all, but sometimes the You are dreaming suggestion works as I find myself telling myself in my dream that I am dreaming and then become lucid.

Been torn about leaving this in Aids or moving it to Techniques.  I think it belongs in Techniques... but we'll leave a link in Aids too.
