Optional Personal Contact Information in Profile

If you go into your profile and then click on Forum Profile Information, you will notice two new fields: Phone Number and Contact Instructions.

These fields were added as a result of the "What if..." thread started by Snowy_Egypt.  They are only visible to the administrators.  The purpose is to provide a way to check up on people who have vanished from our midst - but only if they wish to make that possible and only according to the instructions left there.

Whether you use these fields and how you choose to use them is entirely up to you.  Be assured that we will respect your privacy and your wishes if you choose to make use of the feature. 

(If you do not wish to leave a phone number, another option might be the email or snail mail address of a friend or relative.)

To recap:

• Using this feature is optional.  There is no requirement or even expectation for you to fill it in.
• Only admins have access.  The information will not be used for any purpose other than according to your contact instructions.
• Although only admins can see the info, all members are encouraged to look after one another.  If you don't see someone on for a period of time and you are curious, drop a PM to an admin and they will check it out.

I like this idea, I think it would be nice to know that people on here cared. And fingers crossed it never happens but if it did it would also be nice for family to know people cared to

Done. I think this is an excellent idea, and a good use of the Custom Profile Mod to boot. More so, though, I really appreciate the fact that the people here really DO care. I hope nothing ever happens to any of us, but it's nice to know that my online friends will have a real-life way of getting a hold of me to find out that it's just my computer being down or something, if something like that ever happens. Or, of course, worse, if it comes to that.
