A Mere Mortal BeaconDecember 2, 2008
Greetings, fellow mortals!
December is upon us, and an early winter has set in over much of the mid-west and north-east. Cooler weather and longer nights bring ideal conditions for sleep. . . and with sleep comes dreams, and with dreams, opportunity for Lucidity.
While the Mist has turned to crisp, delicate morning frost in many places, there is still a lot going on here - and a lot of opportunity for anybody who wishes to be more involved.
Naiya and others are discussing a workshop on
Dream Yoga. A firm start date has not yet been set, but you can follow the discussion and planning
here.
Raklet continues working on enhancements to the Dream Catcher system. His current project is a very flexible tagging system, currently in beta on our "nuclear test site".
Sean999 has created a
Mortal Mist YouTube channel. We are in need of submissions of video and audio material related to Lucid Dreaming to increase interest and help promote what we are doing here.
I am often asked
what it takes to get on staff here at Mortal Mist. All it takes is a willingness to do something.
You may have noticed that we only have a three "flavors" of member rankings here; Administration, Ambassador and Member/Owner - which includes everybody. We have no moderators. The boards are fully opened to new members after ten on-topic posts.
Administrators are here necessarily interfacing between the needs of the member/owners and the supporting software and infrastructure. We are here to serve the needs of the owners.
Ambassadors are members from different nations who agree to try helping promote Lucid Dreaming and Mortal Mist in their own lands, languages and cultures. They have no special powers or authority beyond recognition as ambassadors. If you are interested and your nation is not yet represented by an Ambassador, please drop us a note.
Member/owners are all of us who choose to participate and contribute to the Mortal Mist community.
What, really, is "staff" in a member-owned community? It is anybody who is willing and able to do anything for the community. If you want to be "on staff," all it takes is deciding to do something and doing it. What kinds of opportunities are available?
- Coding and writing of entry pages - a project presently laying dormant for lack of time and attention by those of us who were originally working on it
- Enhancing and modifying software. What needs to be done? What do you WANT done?
- Working on and improving graphic layouts and themes. (Our sophisticated and unique Dream Catcher package relies on a rather spartan interface for lack of artistic attention.)
- Promotion of any and all kinds. We have pages on Myspace, FaceBook and YouTube. Activity on all three is quite low.
- Propose and execute experiments, data gathering and analysis
- Get involved in workshops. Is there something you would like to know better? Teaching is the often the best way to learn!
This is just a sampling of opportunities available. If you want to see it done and are willing to either do it or put together a team, you can do it - and you can consider yourself "on staff". If there is anything needed by way of forum configuration or access, the Admin Team is here to serve you.
The Mortal Mist community exists as an open framework in which to explore and promote the art and discipline of Lucid Dreaming. As a member/owner, everything here is available to you in your choice to help fulfill our purpose and rise to our potential.
In other words, you already ARE on staff. . . if you choose to be.
Until next time. . .
