Happy first anniversary Mortal Mist! This site has some of the most mature, kindest, experienced, and overall most highly evolved lucid dreamers it is my honor to know. Although real life has thrown me a serious curve lately and I do not have as much time as I'd like to share my thoughts and to dream with you, be assured that you are all in my thoughts and dreams daily.

Happy Anniversary Mortal Mist!
When I needed a safe, reassuring and welcoming place to share one of the most intimate parts of my life (my dreams), you were there to take me in your arms.
Sadly the stresses of real life have made my recall of everyday dreams elusive and my lucid dreams few and far between.. but I can still experience the joy of dreaming by visiting this site. And I know that when I begin to lucid dream again..
MM will be here to share my excitement and my joy.

Happy Birthday, Mortal Mist!
Our community is now one year old! In honor of our first anniversary together here, we have implemented a new set of front pages, (which some of you may already have noticed,) and a new way to quickly create and include sketches in posts anywhere on the boards – the DreamSketcher.
The new front pages have been the collective effort of many, but
Josh and
Adam are primarily responsible for the coding and
Aspiration Realized for the general mapping, content outlines and some of the content. (Yours truly wrote much of the verbal filler, which is still wide open to improvement and replacement. Please feel free to critique and suggest.) Important aspects of the new “front end” include what is hopefully a somewhat less foreboding first impression, a hard-coded introduction to lucid dreaming, and emphasis on what makes our community unique.
The DreamSketcher is a project conceived by
dodobird, who took it on himself to code the Java applet at the core of the application. He and
Raklet have been working for weeks on the implementation, struggling through many integration, functionality and security issues. Look for the new button in the editing windows, right at the end of the choices. When you click it, the DreamSketcher applet will be launched. When you are finished sketching, be sure to click on File, then Export, then copy the link to be pasted into your post! (This is a first implementation – the system will be refined with time and use.)

What's Next?This would be a good time to re-commit ourselves to the promotion of Lucid Dreaming. We have established a sound foundation here at MortalMist.com, with unique resources to offer experienced and aspiring lucid dreamers alike. The DreamCatcher, Tagger and DreamSketcher systems set our dream journals apart from anything else available. The experience level and dedication of our core community is without peer. We are on the cutting edge of several areas of exploration in lucid dreaming.
These are all well-kept secrets to the lucid dreaming world, for the most part. While it is wonderful to have the secure, intimate setting we enjoy here, communities that do not bring in new people don't usually survive very long. Our mission has not changed; promotion of Lucid Dreaming remains a big part of our reason to exist, and may end up being the key to our long-term survival. We aren't about being the biggest or competing with the huge, well-established dreaming communities, but we are intent on being the best. Maintaining a slow but steady flow of new members is essential to that goal.
With the new features and a year of successes under our belt, the time is right to refresh and update our
FaceBook and
MySpace pages and groups and to get to work on our
YouTube presence. Our new front end should help with our search engine visibility, but what more can we do? We want to keep our primary focus on Lucid Dreaming, of course. We need to find ways to reach more people like us; lucid dreaming enthusiasts who are likely to add to the synergy of the Mortal Mist Community.
If you have ideas, suggestions or want to start, revive or join a project, please check into Town Hall and make your voice heard there. (If you can't yet see Town Hall, you will be able to soon – after a few more on-topic posts.) There is a lot that needs doing. A partial list includes:
- Writing a comprehensive “how to” guide to using our forum and all the available features
- Assisting with selection of (semi) monthly featured lucid dreams
- Writing the newsletter
- Helping to maintain and promote our FaceBook, MySpace and YouTube efforts
- Brainstorming, implementing and administering new promotional ideas and plans
- General graphical theming and overall site appearance
- Coding assistance, particularly in improving the look and feel of feature interfaces
- Workshop presentation
- Recording and editing of audio and video tutorials and presentations
This is not a comprehensive list of opportunities. As a member-owner, you may be as involved as you wish just by letting us know what you would like to do and what you need to facilitate your project or involvement.
Human endeavors live and die according to the energy and attention of those involved. If you believe we have something here worth sharing and preserving, please consider becoming more involved in the community and helping to bring in new attention and energy, which will benefit us all while improving our chances of long-term survival. What we have available here in The Mist fills a unique niche in the Lucid Dreaming world. Many more dreamers would be enjoying what we have to offer if they knew we existed.
In the meantime, each of you deserves congratulations and recognition for being part of bringing Mortal Mist into being and keeping it alive and breathing for a full year! The site and software is nothing more than an accommodation for the Mortal Mist community, the real magic of Mortal Mist – you, the dreamers who choose to be here. We exist because YOU are willing to share your most valuable treasure, the precious time of your life, with the rest of us.That is a most amazing birthday present.
