I have had several WILD attempts, only three have been successful. The ones that were successful had very fast transitions from SP to the dream. I have only had a couple of SP experiences that did not go right into a dream, and they usually entailed me thinking that I was moving when I really wasn't.

My main problem is getting to the SP stage. At first I was restless and never fell asleep, but I think I have that covered now. I always WBTB and sometimes combine that with a CAT. I find the WBTB and the attempt to WILD is usually good at giving me a lucid, but I am looking for that solid and consistent WILD.

Any suggestions on making the SP sensations come quicker? What preparations are essential for you before a WILD?

To me, it seems like successful WILDing is a form of self-hypnosis.  It works best for me when I can use a meditative technique to quiet my mind but keep it alert enough to maintain focus.  As soon as I start seeing nebulous shapes, I focus intensely on those while continuing to count, repeat a mantra, do the FILD technique, concentrate on a sensation of sinking or something else along those lines.

The SP sensations aren't always part of the experience for me.  The hard part is making the transition fully "into" the dream once I am seeing full three-dimensional settings.  Trying to do that without jolting awake or completely losing the thread of consciousness is challenging indeed.

I have also found that my best chances (nearly guaranteed) of successful WILDing come after I've had some kind of lucid dream already in the night.  I'm not sure why, but that seems to open a door.

I see. I definitely think that I need to relax my body more and meditate so I stop thinking of things I need to do later that keep my mind occupied on non-sleep things. As for the "nebulous shapes", I don't really get this HI that many describe. For me, I see brief images that continue to grow into "mini-dreams" where there is some theme but my dream body is not in the picture yet.

One thing that I have tried and had some success with today was imagining I was at a computer typing out a mantra.

Imagining doing something is powerful!  The more sensory input you can imagine, the better.

Try imagining swimming or flying the next time you get to those mini-dreams you describe.

I know the topic is a little dead, but I didn't wanna make a new one, since it's the same topic.
Where does the vibrating start for you? Last night while attempting to WILD, it felt like my eyes were vibrating, and then it spread through my face, and right above my left knee, in a small spot, but I kept snapping out of it. Does that sound right? Or just something else?

For me, it varies, but now its usually very sudden and intense for a couple of seconds for my whole body and then I feel floaty and know I am dreaming. I have heard a lot of different experiences. Some get it mostly around the head and neck.

For me it's head and neck. It comes on pretty quick and it's unmistakable when it does. Very intense and a little disorienting.

Many people experience sensations of electricity running down their legs. I have experienced this a few times. This is also unmistakable.

If you start feeling either of these, you are unlikley to go "I wonder if that was a vibration?". It's more obvious than that.

I will offer some good advice. You're a newbie. Worry about DILDs first. Then tackle WILDs. You will almost certainly fair better this way.

It was definatly a twitch, if nothign else, and very strong.

Tried a WILD during a nap this afternoon, got a question.

I'm pretty sure i was experiencing SP, although not as intense as i have felt before.  I was getting some wierd images, that were racing around quite vivid at times, sometimes not.  My eyes were also going crazy.  It felt like they were twitching, moving around involuntarily.  At the time i was thinking 'oh maybe i'm entering REM'.  After about 15-20 seconds, this was getting a bit uncomfortable so i voluntarily moved my eyes left and right, and this eased it a little, and then i lost the images and feelings of SP.

Has anyone had that?

You are describing HI - Hypnogogic Imagery.  You may have been experiencing SP - Sleep Paralysis - at the same time, but the two do not have to go together.

SP usually sets in for me with a very pleasant wave of vibrations.  In times where the HI is that intense for me, I do go for WILD, so you were on the right track I think.  I've never been conscious of the eye vibrations though - not like that.  Hopefully somebody here will recognize this or be able to relate to it.

It almost sounds like you HAD successfully WILDed but were still completely conscious of your eyes.

Chris, I recognize this very much.  If this type of thing frightens you, I would of course recommend you discontinue--however, if it does not, I can tell you from experience that it can lead to extremely powerful dreams.

Next time you find yourself in this state, although every bit of common sense may tell you that you are awake, don't believe it.  Try to rise out of your body, or something.  I can't stress it enough, even if you know you're awake.

What do the eyes actually do during REM? Is the name literal and they flicker/move rapidly?  Thats what it felt like for me.

Nah i love WILD's and sleep paralysis.  My first WILD i had some wierd SP, was a 'unsettling' at one point i guess, but still enjoyable.  I enjoy nightmares too lol (moreso after i wake up, there quite fun).  I just stopped this one cos this involuntary movement of my eyes were getting quite uncomfortable after a while.

In the past..I have had some success entering.. [WILDs]  by simply keeping  alert by .. [concentrating  on my breathing]...[and  waiting for auditory and visual road signs  [all the way into the dream]...

 This is not so easy to do every time because the  problem is getting through the hypnogogic state without loosing the alertness..

Because.. I Think..The Hypnogogic state is where the brain normally disconnects your awareness  and dream turns NLD...

Whenever I enter a state of [SP].. [for me] its a great opportunity to enter a very high level lucid or OBE...

I would experience this by rolling out of my sleeping body or sitting up out of my sleeping body..

If you want to increase chances for [SP].... [Galantamine Bitartate Choline]  in proper doses can do this in my experience...
