DreamSketcher Contest

Purpose:  To promote the DreamSketcher and Dream Journals

How It Works:  Using the DreamSketcher, (the lone button in the row above the smileys,) create drawings inspired from other people's dream journals, not your own.  Post the drawings in this thread, along with a link to the related journal entry.  Each participant may enter a maximum of five drawings.  Entries may be withdrawn at any time until the end of the day May 20 - midnight Eastern time.  A first round of voting will then be run, accepting open nominations for two days, followed by two days of voting.  (You may not nominate your own drawing.)  The top three drawings from three different artists will then be entered in a run-off vote lasting two days, placing them for first, second and third place.

The contest entry period begins at 12:01 AM Eastern time on May 1 and ends at midnight Eastern time on May 20.  Entries MUST be created using the DreamSketcher - drawings created with other software or hosted outside of the Mortal Mist DreamSketcher system will not be accepted for nomination.  Drawings may be based on journals in the public or member's only sections.  Only one drawing per artist will be entered in the final run-off.  (If one artist has more than one drawing in the top three, only the top voted drawing will be placed in the run-off.)

Please post any questions in this thread. . . and have fun!

I don't like to be the guy to say this, but since it's a contest, what's the prize?

The dream sketcher is interesting. Can you post on this thread a kind of manual into all of it's features? What's the coffee cup for? What are all the numbers on the side bar for?

Maybe we can show the winning painting on the front page of the site for a while : )

I was thinking of showing all three - they will be our "featured dream" for the month.

Any other ideas?  A Corvette Z1 was suggested, but that would create export problems if somebody outside the U.S. were to win.

OK, There is the brush tool, which paints according the shape that you choose at the bottom, and the color.

The Coffee cup, which draws transparent colors, and works better with a large brush.

The bucket, that fills areas.

The number buttons don't do anything.

You can choose costume colors by double clicking on a color on the color panel.

You can resize the canvas size by resizing the window.
Watch out! If you make the window smaller than the drawing that you already did, it will make the canvas smaller and cut the area of the drawing that are now hidden.

You can undo and redo by opening the edit menu item. Or press Control-Z ( undo )
, and Control-Shift-Z for redo.
You got a history of 10 undo and redos.

To save the image on the site, open the File menu item, and press export. Copy the [img] tag link, and paste it on your post, and press OK.
If you forget to copy and press OK, then you can still see the img tag link at the top, under the menu bar.

The image will take a few seconds to minutes to upload to the MM server, depending on your connection speed, the image size, and its complexity, so it you don't see the image after you finished the post, it would probably mean that it's still uploading. If you try to close the DreamSketcher window while it is uploading, you will get a message that it is still uploading, and you will not be able to close it.

Well that's about it, I think I covered all the features.

If you have any questions I would love you answer!

Well, there's always the coveted trophy in the sig.

If it's going to be the featured dream, should it be a lucid dream then that we use for the idea?

I think it should be open to all journaled dreams, lucid or not.

The picture will be featured on the front page.  The dream it comes from won't necessarily be able to be linked - that depends on the permission of the dreamer and whether it is in the public journals or not.  Posting a front page link to a member's only dream doesn't work very well, as it can only be viewed by logged-in members.

Lol, I know whose dream that was!  That's great, Pannie!  (Really--it's extremely good; I love the details.)

I can add one quite easily, but that would give an advantage in the contest to those making drawings after I release the update...

Nice drawing!

Drawings for the first vote must be nominated by somebody other than the artist.  Depending on how many entries there are, we'll accept the top 15 or so - we'll start another poll thread to do that and include the drawings there too.

Then the top three will be in a run-off poll for first, second and third.

Well, Pancaka is the only one who has done one, and he asked for it, so he probably won't mind.  Besides, he has drawing skills, he can easily do an other one.  Grin
