I started in a DC with a backstory and stuck with her. I came into the story when she woke up in an unfamiliar dimension. She explored and started finding things that were familiar. Eventually she learned that she had been there before. She had flashbacks sometimes of the same places in different times. People were drawn to her and she taught them things and let them read from a library that was new to her but familiar and one that she knew very well. She ended up preparing them to go somewhere because she felt like she was going to go and they wanted to go with her.
When the portal finally appeared, she went through and they followed. She told them to stay with her. The gravity there was different, but she was used to it. She remembered that she had been there before too. One of the people that had come with her seemed familiar to her now and she realized that he was from this world. He got separated from the group when they made a jump and she told the others to stay put while she went after him. To get to where he was, she had to go over a narrow metal bridge. It was dark and she couldn't really see the bridge. I made the bridge light for her. That confused her more, but she made it over. When she looked back, she saw that the others hadn't listened and had gone exploring.
She went to the boy and saw that he was talking to two strange little creatures and he looked different. This form was more familiar. That was when she remembered that this wasn't her world and the other wasn't either. She had been traveling for a very long time – maybe millenniums – and her memory was deteriorating. He took something from her – she remembered that it was important – and he changed it. It had some special ability. He asked her what she wanted it to do now. I recommended a grappling hook ability so he made it into two wands, one for him and one for her. She didn't care. He was familiar and she wanted to stay with him. She ended up hugging him and not wanting to go anywhere. He convinced her that she had to keep going and she finally listened, accepted the wand, and went with him to collect the items of hers that the people that had come with her had brought. She found the first of these people a little way past where she had left them.
The person she found had realized that he wasn't going home and was forlorn. He let her have a yellow colored pencil of hers that he had and some notes and money the others had left for her. She didn't care about the money so she gave it to him. While she looked through what he gave her he showed her things he'd found while they were separated and wondered if he should try his hand at being a merchant. He let her look through what he'd collected and said she could have one of the items. He said they were by a local artist. They were rings with patterns made of round gems on their tops. At first she only took what was hers, but then she agreed to take one of the rings as well.
Then lightning woke me up.
