Hazel's Workbook
« on: June 01, 2009, 07:26:25 AM »
Lately I've been suffering from a major recall dryspell, in which I only remember vague details from my dreams. I normally remember at least two dreams per night, and at least one of them is usually a fairly good length.

-How many dreams do you remember a week on average?
It used to be quite a lot, now its only around 4 or 5.

-How many hours of sleep do you get a night on average? You can separate workdays/school days from days off.
I try to get around 8 hours each night. Normally my body won't let me sleep past that, anyway.

-How do you wake up in the morning? (Alarm clock, someone awakens you, or other means)
I use the alarm on my watch, which is MUCH better than an alarm clock. It doesn't startle me awake, it just rouses me gently.

-Do you consider yourself a light or a heavy sleeper?
I suppose light, or maybe somewhere in between.

I think I had a bit more success last night than I've had in a while, though it wasn't much better. But like they say, "Practice makes perfect."

Last night was pretty horrible. I remembered dreaming, but for a while I couldn't recall any of it. I layed in my bed for over half an hour and finally managed to pry some memories from my mind, but I'm still forgetting some important parts to the dreams.

I wonder why it is that sometimes I seem more able to recall the less significant details than the major ones. For instance, I feel like I fought with some type of creature in one of my dreams, but the only part I really remember is fixing a problem with a bed.

I expected to have horrible recall last night considering all the excercise I did yesterday, but it was exactly the opposite! I had one really good lucid, among a few others. (I only put one of the others in my DJ, the other was too confusing and vague.)

I didn't expect to have much recall last night, either. I spent the night at my friend's house, and we stayed up pretty late. But, due to some rather unpleasant circumstances I had to come home early. I got another hour of sleep on the couch back home and had a rather amusing dream. Plus, something sort of unusual happened.

Quote
I am over at Shelby and Taylor's house, and we are watching the news. A story comes up saying that actor David Caradine had died. It said he had been found hanging in his bathroom, and that they expected it was suicide. A picture came up of Gibbs from NCIS. "David Caradine plays a leading role in the popular drama NCIS. They have yet to pick a replacement for his role." ((Interestingly enough, David Caradine really was found dead. He was hanging in his closet, though, and he doesn't really play Gibbs from NCIS. I was sleeping on the couch and the news was on, so it undoubtedly incorporated itself into my dream.))

I had such amazing recall last night, I was really surprised at myself. I think it had to do with sleeping on my back rather than on my sides. Normally I sleep on my right or left side, but last night I made a special attempt to sleep on my back. As a result, I remember 5 dreams, 4 of them being lengthy and action packed.

I had a horrible dream last night, though with fairly good recall of it. The intensity of this dream seemed to overpower memories of my other dreams, however.

It really looks like you are doing well! :D

Even when you have vague and confusing dreams, you should still write down what you can remember of it. It might even help you make some sense out of the dream. It's of course up to you if you want to post it on MM. ;)

Thanks to all of your wonderful advice! It feels good to finally come out of my recall dryspell. :content:

Thanks for the tip! I will try to keep myself motivated enough to write the fragments down.

I woke up to WBTB last night, but unfortunately I fell back to sleep before I could even get out of bed, which resulted in very limited recall. I do remember one that was pretty strange, though.

Wow, two lucids last night! (Including my first FILD!) Recalling them didn't take much work, since lucids are always the easiest to remember. I think the two glasses of apple juice I had before bed may have helped with that. Also, I woke up more times than usual last night, which definately helped to recall a lot more dreams. Unfortunately, I didn't write any down when I first woke up, so I've forgotten the non-lucids. (But I had an excuse other than being lazy. I was trying to FILD and I didn't want to wake up too much for it to work.)

I find myself waking up during the night also (maybe because of my age?)  If I get my consciousness with the memories to get awake and open my eyes that helps (doesn't guaranty the memory but it helps.)

I know what you mean. A lot of times I will also repeat a certain word from the dream to embed it into my mind, which works better than nothing. (Of course, writing them down is still the best.)

Not much recall last night. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that I over exerted myself on the treadmill yesterday?

My quality of sleep last night was very strange, but I did manage to remember several dreams. Some of them I decided not to post here at MM, but they are in my written DJ. I also managed to write some notes in the middle of the night, which definately helped a lot.
