For what it's worth, Chris, I highly recommend you get your first lucid experiences without supplements.  Even the most powerful and reliable of them well just bring you to the door - you still need to be able to get through it.

Everybody's different, of course.  Just my humble opinion on the matter.

That's a great point. I am planning on not taking anything in the next couple of nights, and only try apple juice on Friday. I hope I can archive lucidity in this time. have fortunately been on the edge of lucidity at least 12 times in the past four months naturally, and without any aids besides keeping a dream journal and affirmations. I am hoping the aids will stimulate me enough to remember to perform a RC (which I feel was the only thing I needed before becoming lucid - and I have been very close to doing a RC, but lacked the awareness to do so). I have ordered galantamine and choline and it should get here friday.  I will hold off on it though. As you can probably relate in your past experience, I would really love to experience an LD soon.
Thanks again,
Chris

Wow, that was very enlightening. I assumed that tolerance could be diminished by spreading out LDS attempts, and by always modifying the combination (such as it is recommended in the Thoman Yuschack book). I never thought it would have such an impact as you explained it. That is a major issue and I will definitely postpone galantamine et.al. Thank you so much for advice.
I will probably try the caffeine aid since it potentially has a much different tolerance factor - especially since I am going to be drinking lots of coffee in two weeks because of final exams in school. But other than that (and apple juice?), I'll stay LDS free.  LOL I was just about to purchase a-GPC to try with galantamine a week after my initial trial with regular choline.
A big thank you to you and pj.

i agree with MB about the tolerance thing, i took Gm off and on for about 10 months before it just stopped working for me.  my opinion is have a couple of lucids naturally or with things like caffeine that a tolerance could work either way (ie i am not addicted to caffeine and it has worked for me, MB is and it has also worked for her).  once you feel the different awareness of being lucid and get a feel for it then jump into the Gm if you want- i'll bet you will LOVE it.

the Gm should help you gain enough of a knowledge base and lucid experience that you may have natural lucids more frequently.

also there are a number of foods that people use to become lucid, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate come to mind... i have never heard of adverse tolerance effects with things like this.

Wow.

We need a few dozen more testing this out now to make sure it isn't just all in our heads.

But even if it IS imagined, this is already one of the best placebo effects I've seen in LDing.

I must admit I'm a little confused as to how this is working.

If much (but not all) of dreaming occurs during REM sleep and caffeine has been shown to suppress REM, I wonder why taking it is inducing lucid dreams.

How curious, anyway I shall experiment also - just not on a work night where insomnia the night before would not be good  ;)

i would LOVE for a placebo to be this successful!  probably there would be no physical/mental tolerance to a placebo.

What makes this different and seems to be introducing something else into the mix is the withdrawal.

I already have a bit of a headache. . . should be interesting.  Probably will be a second go with the Excedrin.

Off to bed for me.

Fail for me, but I screwed it up.  When I got up for WBTB I had an upset stomach and a couple really sore joints from work I was doing earlier.  I only took one Excedrin, fearing that taking two or drinking coffee would prevent me from getting back to sleep at all - which would have been disastrous today, as I have much to do.

I hesitate to call this a failure, but it really is. . . so I'm 2/4 so far.
