Somewhere Over the Rainbow
« on: November 12, 2009, 05:37:40 PM »
Hello and welcome to my Lucid Dream Adventures  :bookread: (sorry about the cheesy title btw!)

I discovered lucid dreaming naturally a few years ago but only had them occasionally and never really tried to induce them. Then in March 2008 I had a few such cool lucid dreams that I started trying to have them more often. I got into a bit of a start-stop pattern with it all but then finally in October 2008 I decided I was going to make Lucid Dreaming a permanent part of my life. Since then I've trained myself to be able to have lucid dreams at will. It's been a bit of an undulating journey full of ups and downs and various obstacles but it's been a great adventure and now I can visit Dreamland in a lucid state whenever I have the inclination - and the time!

This looks to be a friendly forum and a great place to share my personal lucid experiences and to read about other lucid dreamers' nightly escapades too. So, I will be posting

Nonlucid dreams = Black
Partially Lucid dreams = Dark Blue
Lucid dreams = Blue

I'll also give each entry a star rating from :1s: to :5s: according to how cool the dream experience was.

I hope you enjoy reading my journal  :greenstars: <---- Couldn't resist this cool emoticon!

Escape from the Nazis

:3s:

My first journal entry is from this morning's dream and was actually mildly scary. I woke up naturally at about 3.30am with pretty good recall and stayed awake for a good couple of hours mucking around on the internet until I felt a bit sleepy so went BTB and attempted to have a lucid dream with my usual MILD/WILD combo.

After a while I found myself lying in my bed. It was bright and sunny and there was a huge bee at my window. It was about as big as a cat! I recognized that it was disproportionately large and resembled the bees I see through my macro lens IRL! I tried to get up out of bed to stabilize the dream but my brain had other plans. It paralysed me, which was fun, and started moving me automatically which is a sensation I get quite a lot and always one I enjoy. It feels pretty crazy.

Next thing I'm in a nonlucid dream where I'm in a room (at work somewhere I think) lying on a double bed trying to WILD. Then this guy I work with IRL who is kind of sweet but kind of sleazy comes and lies down beside me on the bed. I push him off telling him that I'm trying to have lucid dream and it won't work if he's on the bed moving round disturbing me. He looks all disappointed. Then a totally GORGEOUS guy comes into the room and gets lies down on top of me and I'm like "Oh hi! You can stay!"

Next thing I'm suddenly in a new dream automatically lucid. It's an office with two men in uniform standing in it. They're Nazis. I think 'Jeez, why did my brain have to choose this theme? Must be something I saw or read yesterday.' It's a bit scary but I say to them "Look, I'm not scared of you and I'm walking out of here and you can't stop me". I then walk over to the door thinking how cool it is that I am totally safe in a dream. I open the door and walk through.

I find myself standing in an absurdly long plain white narrow corridor. I start running along it and as I do that classic dream effect happens that you see in movies! You know the one I mean... where the end of the corridor keeps extending as you run towards it. I found this highly amusing. Then I'm at the end of the corridor. I turn right and find myself in a stairwell. I go down the stairs and there's another long corridor. I run along it only this time I'm running super fast (which has never happened to me in a dream and I think may have come from reading Caradon's journal). As I run I am singing "I walk without a cut through a stained glass wall" which is a line from one of my favourite songs. Then I leap into the air and dive through the solid concrete wall - which is of course not solid at all but merely a product of neural activity As I fly through the wall I try to think about what scene I'd like on the other side but I wake up.

Welcome to Mortal Mist!  Nice job picking up on the dreamsign.

Was there any sensation at all as you passed through the wall, or did your recognition of it being a complete fabrication of your mind make it totally insubstantial?

Thanks for the welcome  :) I'm really liking this forum already. It's got lots of cool features. I especially like the star rating icons.

It's interesting that you should ask about the wall. I didn't describe it in as much detail as I should have. As I leaped towards it I clasped my hands together with my fingers pointing towards the wall like someone about to do a dive into water and then pushed my arms outwards into the superman position as i entered the wall as though clearing matter from in front of my face. However was there no sensation at all as I flew through it. It was like flying through thick dark gray cloud. My mind actually made the wall interior go on for ages while I tried to decide what scene was going to be on the other side. So I was flying through it for about five seconds.

Anyway, last night I dreamed one of my classic dreamsigns which was trying to photograph a rainbow. I looked out the window of the room I was in and saw the most brilliant double rainbow. I grabbed my camera and was hurriedly flicking it onto the correct settings. When I looked up again the rainbow had all but gone. Then I realised I should do a reality test but I woke up.

Man of Shred, you should make it a goal. It's amazing coz your brain doesn't quite get them right and so they look really interesting. They're different every time but always they are stunning!

Will have to check out your journal :)

Moonbeam, yeah I've been meaning to pop into your journal and have a good read. Caradon recommended it. Have just been waiting until I have a good chunk of time because I know once I start reading it I'll find it hard to stop. I will get to it though!

As for the tips... yeah, I'm actually thinking of writing a good description of what I've learned and discovered throughout my lucid journey to share with other LDers. Basically though, I have given lucid dreaming A LOT of time and effort to see what works for me and it's like I've reached an equilibrium. I'm still experimenting with new ideas - I'm trying something quite promising at the moment which I'll share in the near future if it works. But I think the biggest two tips I could give would be

1) Use WBTB
2) Spend time during the day and when trying to induce a LD when you return to bed thinking and feeling what it is like to be in a dream. This trains you to recognize when you are dreaming. It has helped me no end.

and of course, Reality Tests are still important if you want bonus lucids from DILD. I've been slack with mine recently and last night I missed one of my most classic dreamsigns! A bee landed in my hair and was there buzzing around for ages and ages - a rather unpleasant experience as you can imagine. If only I'd done a test  ::)

Hey Rainbow. Good to see you made it. :)

I like the avatar too. That was a good Lucid. Funny about the extending hall, I hate when that kind of thing happens. But at least you got to the end of it. Nice job going through the wall. That's something I need to work on.  Too bad about waking up when recognizing the rainbow.
That happened to me a couple days ago when I saw a lion in a cage. I recognized it as a dreamsign, Then woke up just as I was becoming aware I was actually in a dream.

Don't forget to add your dream to the dream counter. At the bottom of the post you can add the number of dreams, Lucids, or fragments, that are in each post. Then the number will show up under your avatar, and the dream will be added to the community dream stats, and the cool dream roulette.

Aw. You invited your mom to fly with you. That's so sweet. Too bad she didn't take you up on it. If I invited my mother she probably wouldn't accept either, she'd probably stare and point and scream at me like one of the pod people in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Congrats on getting lucid. Nice one.

Hi Rainbow. I was wondering what happened to you. God to see you came back. Congrats on the Lucids.  :)

It's of no use trying to convince DC that they're dreaming.

That's not exactly true. I do it a lot. Sometimes they can be difficult, but they can be convinced. Sometimes they believe it, but don't care.
And other times they will be just as fascinated as you are. Adventuring with Lucid DC's can be a very memorable experience.
