Call for Participation: CES study on LD Induction
« on: February 05, 2010, 07:31:47 PM »
Dear MM community:

If you have been following the Lucid Dream Induction Via CES thread, you will know that progress has been slow due to the discontinuation of the NeuroTrek device. I had reached out to a former supplier and he agreed to e-mail a number of his old customers who bought these in the past. Turns out he already has found a few people willing to sell them back.

This puts me in a position where I can open up the testing to a somewhat wider audience. With that said, I don't plan to buy many of these, just a few. The thought was to have a couple circle around to a few trusted individuals who are genuinely interested in the technology, and perhaps have a level of excitement in being part of a new development in LDing.

Please bear in mind that the ideal candidates should be willing to try at least twice a week, and be capable of taking detailed notes. Because of intellectual property protection issues, I am only in a position to send this device and instructions within the United States. It is also possible that interest is high, you fill out this questionaire and never get a chance to try (I would only be so lucky to have so much interest :) ).

If you believe you are a good candidate for this research project, please fill in the questionaire below, and cut and paste it into a PM sent to me. Much of the detail I am asking for will help me accurately quantify how well the CES approach works, vs. the LDS approach, and how well they work together.

Thanks everyone.

DrT

****************************  Questionaire  ***********************************

Do you live in the United States?

Are you at least 18 years of age?

Would you be willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement? The terms of this agreement would basically be to trial the technology and keep discussion of technology and results within the known circle of people who have also signed the NDA. Signing this doc would also require that I know your name and address obviously. You would know mine as well.

Can you collect at least two experimental data points per week?

Are you good at taking notes and willing to share such details (time to bed, time of WBTB period, time of CES application, etc ...).

Are you open to the idea of changing some of your LD habits to work with this new technique. For example, maybe you've been using galantamine 2 times per week and it makes sense to back it off to once a week to fit in 2 CES experiments as well. Basically, you would  probably have to forgo and modify your usage of known techniques to make way for these experiments. Does that sound fair?

How often do you lucid dream naturally?

What is your rate of success if you try a mental induction technique such as WILD or MILD (e.g. 50%) without any additional supplements or foods known to bias results?

If you try your best lucid dream induction technique on a given night, what is your chance of success (e.g. 50%)?

On a scale of 1-10, please rate your familiarity with known LDS approaches?

How often do you use Galantamine/Choline?  What doses?  What is your success rate (e.g. 75%)?

Do you have any concerns over using REM inhibitors, such as Melatonin or 5-HTP?

Are you comfortable with the notion of CES? It involves a small but noticable electric current sent from ear to ear.

Are you familiar with any of the traditional uses of CES, if so please explain.

Are you comfortable experimenting with a combined approach of CES + LDS (for example, CES plus a reduced dose of Galantamine, or a small dose of Huperzine-A).

I too will add a testimonial here.  I had the privilege of working with Dr. T with this study early on.  It is very worthwhile.

Bummer. Hang in there. Hopefully all in good time. I need to start slow. Depending on how results with a wider audience go, there may be impetace to expand this out one way or another.

I went from  ;-D to  :sad1:

Well, it looks like a very interesting project, I am interested in that field. If circumstances change let me know :)

Good luck with the project!  :)

Jeez I hate the USA only bit - how can you make a scientific study on something as universal as dreaming with only one country involved? Let me know if you get over this particular hurdle.

UPDATE:

I now hold in my hands two more NeuroTrek Devices. I will be touching base with people who have responded to start setting up testing. I have 5 takers so far. If you replied already, you might not be in the first round. Hang in there, it will circle your way in due time.

Yes, that the thing. There are other CES units on the market which generate signals that are more consistent with signal properties associated w/ traditional uses of CES ( depression, anxiety, etc ...)

The NT is nice because there are literally thousands of settings. You have control over signal current, envelope, carrier frequency and duty cycle.

The signal I found to be effective for lucid dreaming cannot be replicated by any other commercial device that I know of, and I looked pretty hard.

I now own two additional NT devices and they are starting to make the rounds (more people trying the technology).

Anyone interested in trying, should fill out the questionaire. I am eager to bring aboard more participants, and look forward to what the experiments will reveal.

;-D  I would like very much to participate in this study.  I am a moderately skilled lucid dreamer.  Ira
