using Magnets while dreaming?
« on: March 06, 2010, 07:02:43 PM »
 Hi All...
Concidering the brain is part electric....
  Has anyone ever tryed using magnets on a head band for dreaming?
Last night..I tryed using one ..[very strong].. magnet the shape and size of a dime and did have some interesting dreams..[placed center of forehead]
But this ..[one test].. isnt proof  the magnet had an effect on brain action...
[It could have been placebo effect]
Has anyone ever heard of trying this?
I have seen tests where an ..[electro magnet].. can actually disrupt a persons physical speech in a labratory test ...
But... Can a strong regular magnet or magnets have any effect on brain action?
Any opinions on this?....

Hi Tom:

I am definately aware of experiments where a strong magnetic force was able to bias brain activity. I recall PJ mentioning one where savant like behavior was realized, though the effects where temporary of course. I stumbled onto that description as well.

But since the magnet is stationary, wouldn't that only serve to push or pull various ionized particles in the brain? I'm not an e-mags guy by any stretch. I would assume in the savant experiment for example, that the magnets where generating an alterating magnetic field of some kind?

I agree, the brain is an electro-chemical machine. That was the whole impetus for the CES idea.

I saw a special on TV that sounds like what you are referring to DrT, regarding savants. I remember to induce more creativity they placed magnets on, I believe, the right side of the brain...but I'm not certain about that. I believe a magnetic pulse (?) was administered for a period of 15 minutes, which caused one side of the brain to become more active than the other (obviously the right side to induce savant-like effects). I really think you should do more research (or at least some, considering this is something which has been experimented with many times) before just sticking magnets onto your head and seeing what happens?

edit: this was a special on National Geographic or Discovery Channel or something like that, I highly recommend you trying to find and watching it, I'm sure it's available online and will probably be very helpful

It would be interesting to find out if there is any difference between (-) / (+) of magnets attached to the head and also magnets on the right and left sides of the head, for all i know it creates some kind of spill over effect where it unbalances the hemispheres and creates a situation where one or the other is more dominant.
