Grounding technique: Immediate Dreamsign Review

Immediate Dreamsign Review

This is something I've been developing for the past couple of weeks, and it's been amazingly helpful to me for getting grounded in a dream.

Background: Over the course of a month or so, I had kicked myself many times in the morning after missing my most obvious dreamsigns. They were happening EVERY night, and I was missing them. Typically, I was dreaming of traveling by bus, problems with the ticket times, last second packing with clothes everywhere, and big houses with confusing layouts. Four giant dreamsigns for me, and I was missing them over and over again.

Finally one night during just such a dream, I broke through. It was such a relief that the first thing I did was think about the whole problem while in the lucid state. I thought about the signs, what I had just missed, what finally worked, and the past month of frustration. Going through this in my head had the immediate effect of strengthening my hold on the dream and providing a lot more clarity and tangibility.

Better yet, this technique is having the added benefit of improving the triggering effect of my dream signs in general. It's sort of like a post-game review -- the earlier you do it, the more you learn from it.

So next time you find yourself suddenly lucid, ask yourself the following questions:
1. What specifically just triggered my lucidity?
2. Was it one of my main dreamsigns?
3. If not, should it be considered one?
4. What dreamsigns did I miss before this one?

It is this last one that I find most interesting to ponder. I found myself saying "wow... I can't believe I missed that whole packing clothes thing!" In my opinion, the best time to think about lucid dreaming is during a lucid dream.

I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on this. Give it a try and let me know if you find it useful.

Thank you so much. I will definitely give this a try.

I like #4 too............."What dreamsigns did I miss before this one?"

I just had this problem a few nights ago.  Being chased by wild animals is one of my dreamsigns. And in that dream I was being chased by a hippo. But it wasn't until I saw snow on the ground that I was convinced I was in a dream. I would love to go back and give that a good ponder while in that dream. Why the snow, and not the hippo? Maybe my lucid self would have more insight on that.

Some of my most meaningful LDs are when I really think about what is going on...and not just doing stuff.

I feel the same way. My very first LD about 20 years ago is still one of the most vivid and powerful ones I've ever had. I had recently seen a show about lucid dreaming, but didn't know anybody who could do it and hadn't read any literature. My very first thoughts after "Oh cool... this is what they were talking about!" were:
"What is today's date?"
"What time is it now?"
"Where is my body lying, and in what position?"

It was more pure curiosity than calculation, but this probably helped to completely ground me before I even knew getting grounded was an issue. I just wish I could remember always to take the time, but I often feel impatient to run off and change the world.

This seems like an excellent idea - I will attempt to try this next time I become lucid.

Total Lifetime LDs: 54
(53 DILDS 1 FILD - many of the DILDs have been induced by WBTB or FILD/WILD Attempts - or both)

I'll jump on board too! I wonder if this internalizes the missed signs (to your sub-c) and leads to making it easier to pick up on in future dreams?
What would you do if you were dreaming right now?

Great idea! I love doing anything when I am lucid that makes me just take a second to soak it in. It seems whenever I do become lucid I just move right along.
