The Erratic Oneironaut - Issue #60
Date March-02-2011

"How do I get lucid?" Is a question most of us are very familiar with, often from our own musings.  This is a question that has been asked by many a dreamer, and many a dreamer have given up without ever finding that long sought answer.  The truth is, what may be a silver bullet for me isn't likely to be that effective for you.  Dreaming is, after all, an incredibly personal art.  The trick then must become to find out how to work with our minds to achieve lucidity rather than trying to fight our minds tooth and nail.  Once we do that, it is my opinion that we will have made a good step forward toward our goals.  The trick is that to do this, we need more than that old question in our arsenals, we need...

Featured Technique
Who on this site is still struggling with lucidity? OK, lots of people. You get the usual encouragement, and good advice from the experienced LDers, blah blah blah ,...

There was a passage in this book that summarizes the challenge and potential solution space quite effectively:

"Learning how to be sentient in NPMR does not represent a new skill that must be mastered, it simply occurs spontaneously after self imposed constraints are removed: It is unlearning that is required" ... (unlearning) .... "is not easy. Nevertheless, unlearning always yields to steady serious effort".

Game 6 of Moonlit Meadows, Liars & Cheats, begins Friday. Featuring a Mafia "Moonlit Metropolis" theme with new game-changing Roles, this game is set to be the biggest game we've had yet.

If you're new and have never heard of Mafia, a basic idea can be found at this thread (although this is slightly outdated information). To look into the basics of Game 6 check out this thread, and if you'd like to sign up you should go here. If you have any questions you can PM me, AspirationRealized. But there's only a couple days left to join before the game begins, so you'll need to hurry.

March Lucid Challenges

Basic: Rob a bank.  Alternatively, complete one of your own goals.
Intermediate: To aid in the transition to spring, cause all of the remaining snow to melt.
Advanced: Change perspectives from first person to another point of view.

March Monthly Meeting Place - Finding a Leprechaun Trap

Finding a Leprechaun Trap while lucid and getting the coin out without getting caught will earn a Gold Award. Finding a Leprechaun Trap while lucid and not finding a coin or getting the coin out will earn a Silver Award. Dreaming of finding a Leprechaun in a non-lucid dream will earn a Bronze award, but if you are able to get the coin out will earn a Silver Award.

Vote for a Featured Dream - Thanks to Hukif, we have a poll to choose between two dreams for the featured dream.  Vote here.

From around the Mist:

If I give you a clean and well laid out document complete with numerical bullet points, I never intended them as an authoritative message saying "this is what you need to do."  What I'm giving you is a question.  "Here is what I came up with.  Are you willing to take it, understand why it succeeded and why it failed, then turn it into something truly beautiful?"

Thank you, wolve.  Nice work.
What truly matters is not built of right and wrong; but of grace, and of love.

As I said last night the intro and outro are very thought provoking, in a good way. The intro in particular I'm still considering.

But yes good job  ;-D
Drow, drow, drow your canoe
 The stream provides flotation
 Hysterically, hysterically, hysterically, hysterically
 Existence is hallucination

...have you ever met anyone who actually changed?

By the way, concerning Featured Dreams, it shouldn't say Vote here. It should say simply Vote. Like in Vote NOW!
Just kidding - it was a simple but concise Newsletter. I think that mentioning the names of the dreamers whose dreams are being considered would be positive, because the likelihood is that they don't know there's a voting happening with their dreams!

And, if I haven't said so, Vote:
