The Erratic Oneironaut - Issue #61
Newsletter of the Mortal Mist Community
March 15, 2011

Amateur Owned and Operated

We continue enjoying an unusually high inflow of new members, and thank all of you warmly for choosing to join us here in this rather unique endeavor we call Mortal Mist.  This place stands apart from other online communities in a number of ways.  Most obvious probably is our unrivaled concentration of highly experienced and prolific lucid dreamers and explorers of consciousness.  The thing that really sets us apart, however is the owner.  The owner is you.

This is not just some figurative fantasy.  You retain ownership of everything you contribute to Mortal Mist, and are free to lock, modify or remove what belongs to you at will, without time restrictions or need for permission or assistance.  As you contribute to the collective magic that breathes life into this community, you also own part of the results of the synergistic multiplication of our cooperative efforts.

Mortal Mist is here because of the interest and effort of our owners, and we welcome you in joining us in that privilege and responsibility.  How you choose to exercise the power of ownership is entirely up to you.  The possibilities are endless.  All it requires is imagination, desire and attention - the stuff from which everything here is made.

As we approach our three year anniversary on March 26, I can't help but smile while remembering all the times we were told by the professionals that this could not work.  Perhaps the reason it does work is because we are not professionals?  The root of the English word "amateur" is from the French, meaning "lover of", and further back from the Latin "amator" or "lover".  What is here has been accomplished for the love of it, not for the profit.  More than enough of life is consumed in the endeavor to survive and prosper.  It makes sense to us to sanctify this aspect of our lives and preserve it separate from the requirements of profit, loss, and wealth accumulation.  The value we gain in return is truly ours, yet wonderfully different from those things we value in monetary terms.

As dreamers and builders of the Mortal Mist community, we proudly welcome you to the ranks of the Amateurs.

The Two Months of MILD

KayTea has just begun the following thread:
Quote from: KayTea
Mentalenforcer, Raven_Knight, and I have formed a two month long goal that we will attempt a MILD every night (circumstances permitting). I'll be posting updates in this thread every 7 days to keep us motivated, we will also be updated each other daily via PMs. If any of us fails to attempt (due to laziness, forgetting, etc) then we will be publicly humiliated in this thread. The ~60 day attempt begins tonight.

This sounds like a great idea to me!  Some of the best success I've ever known in lucid dreaming was when I was really into accomplishing Seeker's monthly tasks back at DreamViews.  The motivation may have in part been the goals themselves, but was more tied to the group of us who were in friendly competition and in constant communication about it.

I'm betting the results will be noteworthy.  If you wish to join them, follow their progress or assist in supplying their requirements for public humiliation, the thread is here:

Moonlit Meadows, Cheats and Liars

Game 6 of Moonlit Meadows is underway!  While it is too late to get involved, the pre-game story is a very worthy read, written in noir style and featuring a cast of characters you just might recognize.  You can follow along here:

If you have dreams relating to the game, please post here:

Thank you, AspirationRealized and everybody who is participating!

From around the Mist:

Closing Thoughts

Just to be different today, I'm closing with the introduction as it originated, before I started editing.  There are things here I really wanted to say.

----------------------

Beware the Ides of March!

Yes, the Ides of March have come, but they have not gone.  Oh - you're not Caesar?  Never mind.

Writing these intros is sometimes challenging.  Since it is the newsletter for a Lucid Dreaming community, it seems fitting and proper for the commentary to be tied to either that subject or at least something going on in the community.  Tugging at those demands are my own tendencies toward random irreverence, non sequitor and twisted flights of fancy.  The result is usually a pile of rubbish which gets trimmed and sculpted and modified until time runs out, followed by a final desperate attempt to somehow connect whatever survives the editing axe to Lucid Dreaming and the Mortal Mist community.  Invariably, moments after hitting the Send button, a genuine cohesive thought comes to mind, but it's always too late.

Today, as seems to be the case so often lately, the turmoil of Waking Life is captivating the world's attention and mine.  Between unrest in the Middle East, earthquakes in New Zealand and Japan, the ensuing tsunami and problems with resulting damage to the Fukushima nuclear power plants, it is challenging indeed to focus on Lucid Dreaming and our happy little community.  So, without further ado, I will move on and finish the rest of the newsletter, as I don't think I'm going to be able to connect this introduction with anything other than the possibility of us keeping our dreams and the Mortal Mist community sanctified from the turmoils of everyday life.

----------------------

Until next time,

pj. . .

Who said that? I'm curious.

Let's just say they were/are people who run a variety of websites that earn money or be built up to be sold or resold.

We were also pronounced dead at one point.

No - that was by somebody different, who believed himself very knowledgeable about such things.  The irony is that the pronouncement was made at a site that is now defunct.

I'm not trying to be coy about not naming names.  I have friends "in the business" and this place was a common topic of discussion in "real life" for me during its inception, as it was taking up most of my free time.  Most of these people are still my friends.

To be fair to those friends of yours, this sort of thing is a rarity. To say it wouldn't have worked is the "safe" bet, in most circumstances. The real mistake was doubting you.

As I said the intro really strikes a chord (is that the appropriate spelling for the phrase?), your newsletters make everyone proud to be here I'm sure.
