The Erratic Oneironaut - Issue #64
Date: 04 May 2011

The haunting pound of a second hand locked away in a clock, the chilling click of a light switch being flipped, the eerie scratch of creatures unknown in your ceiling.  There you are again, awake in the middle of the night, religiously performing that technique that held such promise the day before.  How many nights have you been laying there, hoping for a lucid that you secretly believe isn't going to come, and begging for fruits of your labor 'just this once'?  How many days, or has it been years, of dreams do you have in those journals you keep, and how many of them have been lucid?  "Face it," you hear that ever loyal voice in the far reaches of your mind say, "it's never going to come.  It may work for them, but you're never going to master it."

Futilely, you counter that you may not have had one yet, but tonight is going to be the night. You throw yoursely desperately further into practicing that technique that you have been clinging to for the past hour, or has it been five, and when the air conditioner fires up, bringing a merciful break to the creaks and bumps of the night, you finally fall into a long, dark slumber.  The lucidity doesn't come, and instead you are left stranded in a dream in which your boss at the salad mart, whom you have worked part time for for the last 5 years with no check to show for it, is chewing you out because you put two scorpions in the super salad when policy clearly states that only one is supposed to go in each salad.  Quickly, you try to pull the second scorpion out before he drinks all of the vinegarette, and he stings you awake.  Well, there goes another night...
