All Day Awareness and how it works?
« on: January 30, 2013, 06:07:46 PM »
So I read King Yoshi's all day awareness review. And I'm reading "The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep"

Yoshi's talks about being aware all day as far as feeling your clothes on your body, feeling your tongue in your mouth, seeing yourself blink, listening to your footsteps, paying attention to muscle movements or basically anything that would make you self aware that normal people take for granted. All of this is done to help produce DILD"s and the feeling of awarness in dreams.

The Dream Yoga book states the opposite in a way saying you should be aware of yourself but think of everything around you including yourself own body and mind as in the dream state all the time and to really feel the dreaminess.

Which of these actually works better? I don't know which one to actually practice

I found a simple way to make this easy for anyone. Its on the forum somewhere under SARP, basically you have hot-zones that trigger awareness consciously at first and then after a while its becomes subconscious like re-learning deep breathing a relaxation. It works, but takes effort to get the subconscious on-board which takes time which is where most people fail.

You're already subconsciously aware.  I think doing it consciously is the point.

Consciously doing something takes effort. The key is training yourself to subconsciously do what you wish to do consciously so it becomes automated.

I might be missing the point but  are we trying to get consciousness awareness in the dream state to get lucid and so sub - consciousnesses awareness during the day is not much use.

My take on this is along the lines of my day so far, I pulled out a big patch of peas today that had done their dash and are now straw, dug the soil, put horse manure in and planted  some vege plants. Doing this in in bare feel I got to feel stones on my feet, feel the earth I was digging giving resistance and then me sinking in, cold and warm in places, smell the earth, smell the horse manure and gently handle, feel and plant the plants. I then watered them, got cold water on my feet and then got shivers as I washed my legs in cold water.

This awareness was almost sensory overload, enjoyable and I will be very surprised If it does not come into my dreams in some form in the next two nights and get me lucid. This level of awareness of daily activities is most likely what is being referred to

Far more useful to be lucid when the body is awake, unless you are happy to die sooner rather than later.
Therefore it seems to make more sense to bring your waking lucidity into your sleep-state dreams rather than one's "dreaminess" into the waking state.
Practise being awake when your body is awake, everything else will follow that.

so your saying go with Yoshi's guide then if I want to practice one of these? Because being self aware and noticing things about yourself that most people never do would certainly be "being more awake when my body is awake"

Is there something I'm missing here other than this?

What I'm not 100% sure of Jmac is;
What actually is your goal? What is your main objective that you want to personally achieve?

Thanks everyone. I have actually been enjoying doing as much awareness as possible. It's relaxing for me to focus on myself more during the day than just random robotic thoughts.

BTW my goal with this is what anyone's is... just to promote more frequent DILD's and make MILD's even easier.

It certainly helps in those areas!  :)

Functional perception and awareness in your every day waking world can be a fascinating and rewarding endevour. When we choose to consciously become more aware of our surroundings, we begin to see all the things that surround us that would otherwise be unnoticed. Our general perception is quite limited, inaccurate and distorted unless we consciously focus on it.
Even then I often ponder over how much slips under the radar.

Keep us informed of your progress!!

Deff will keep you updated! Had a very long DILD last night that I think came from practicing this all day awareness. I always MILD. I'v only had 3 DILD's and 2 have came in the past week. Deff a good start!
