The Erratic Oneironaut - Issue #77
April 5, 2013

Leaving A Mark

It has been nearly a year since our last Erratic Oneironaut newsletter.  If publication continues at this rate, we might consider changing the title to The Occasional Oneironaut.  For now, however, Erratic still seems to make sense.

Mortal Mist continues to thrive because of the energy and attention of a small core group of member-owners.  Quite a few of those who are active right now are new enough that this may be their first exposure to this newsletter, which used to be a monthly feature.  Like many things here at Mortal Mist, The Erratic Oneironaut has fallen to a lack of attention and interest.  It is neither gone nor forgotten, but merely put out to pasture and called to task only occasionally.

Since quietly passing our 5th anniversary on March 26, it has been encouraging to look back on some of the impacts our member-owners have had on the world of lucid dreaming.  Searching the internet on INRALD and CWILD show how these concepts originated right here have caught on in the greater lucid dreaming world.  (We rarely receive credit, of course, but we've never been about self-promotion, credit or profit.) DrTechnical and Luminous have both participated in formal research and been featured in high profile interviews in the past year. Many other influences from our explorations and expertise have impacted the world of lucid dreaming in ways that will live on no matter what happens here.  We have made our mark, albeit in a way that is neither proud nor boastful.

Our mission has not changed.  We remain dedicated to exploring and promoting Lucid Dreaming by providing an encouraging atmosphere where member-owners share and discuss experiences, informally promoting research and knowledge of lucidity and all aspects of dreaming through individual and collective documentation and experimentation.

Mortal Mist was started by a group of lucid dreamers who did not wish to continue being exploited for the profit of commercial interests.  True to our original motivation, we adhere to the principle of member ownership.  Each of us owns and controls all we have contributed to this place.  There are no limits on anybody's ability to edit or remove anything they share here.  There is no individual or group who can claim our work as their own property or use it in ways we as individuals might not approve.

Mortal Mist is YOURS.  What you do with it is up to you.

Help Wanted

We are looking for some additional technical help in maintaining and updating the forum and related systems.  If you have been active around Mortal Mist long enough to understand our core values and philosophies, are familiar with command line 'nix and have a working knowledge of PHP and XHTML, please drop a PM to pj and let's talk.

MMineCraft News

Our MineCraft server is currently at 1.5.1.  We started a new world last November with the 1.4 update, and a lot has been done since then!  Our spawn area features a small group of buildings for immediate shelter and modest needs to get a foothold in the game, along with a public mine area.  Transporters can take you to many of Maria's special projects, but beware of using these as not all of them offer an easy way back.  To the south and east, you will find a massive (and still growing) city designed and built by LuminousNaiya's brilliant Maze-In-A-Teapot is just to the east of the city.

The server is Survival mode, with game rules preventing mobs from damaging their surroundings (though they can still kill you!) and allowing you to keep your inventory when you die.

You can only get into our server from an IP address that has been used to log into the Mortal Mist forum.  Point your MineCraft client at mortalmist.com:9028 to join us!

From around the Mist:

I wish to extend a sincere Thank You to all who have come by here, taken the time to understand what we are about and chosen to stick around.  The attention, energy and love each of you has brought to this place keeps it special and magical.  To all who have made your mark and left our midst for one reason or another, we are grateful for all you have done and remember you fondly.  The door remains open.  And to those who have remembered that the door remains open, welcome back!

Exploring the New Frontier of Lucid Dreaming is still in its infancy.  It is a wonderful thing being able to share our discoveries and experiences with one another. . . and with the world.

Until whenever,
pj. . .

Yes fantastically done, pj :) I can't believe its been 5 years... I haven't been around for most of them, but it still doesn't seem like that long ago that we moved over here.

I am monstrously glad that MM is still here. Thank you guys for keeping it up. Maybe that magical 5 year mark is what subconsciously drew a few of us back.  ;)
