I'll give pj the win - not that I'm and expert, but it is Basque, so I'm guessing a bit more like a Spanish dialect???

(And just watched a PVR'd episode of the Glades last night - a Basque man was on - cue the Twilight Zone music!) ;)

                                ?? ?? ?????? ?????? ?? ????

Here's a hint - note from which direction you should read this.

Hebrew?  (Some kind of unicode substitute for it, anyway. . . )

And we have a winner!

I am only using Google Translate, and as my list of Jewish friends who can print/read/speak hebrew is minimal, as in nada (there isn't even a temple here), I just have to go with what Google translate tells me. :?

I've actually studied Hebrew a very tiny bit. . . enough to barely recognize it.

I'm going to not guess the next couple, as my prize pile is getting pretty big.

I have no problem with your growing prize pile, pj - the guessors don't seem to be that large a group. ;)

1. Obviously Indo-European
2. Obviously not a Romance language
3. Obviously not a Germanic language
4. Obviously not a Slavonic language
5. Obviously not a Baltic language
6. Obviously not Greek
7. Obviously not Tocharian
8. Obviously not  Hindhi or Urdo
9. Obviously not Persian

That leaves only four choices, three of them closely related and one not a real language. Unfortunately I cheated to find out which of the three it is :-[

I guess not everyone would be old enoughto remember, "What's new, Pussy Cat".

Song by Tom Jones, who is... Welsh.

BTW, Snaggle - it's ok to cheat - may even help with the lucidity-inducing property of this trial???

??? ?????? ?????? ???? ?????.

Hint - it is an ancient language, but still very much alive today.
