Obvious missed lucid opportunities.
« on: June 02, 2008, 02:12:01 PM »

Had a quick search but couldn't see a thread like this. Thought it would be fun to share past and new experiences of those times we have missed becoming lucid.

What prompted this was last night I was dreaming that I was in the hospital where Scrubs takes place, and I remember walking up to Janitor and saying to him: "When I am lucid, you will be there so make sure you tell me it is only a dream so I can become lucid"

I don't think I could get any more obvious than that really? Not even it I saw a huge sign saying YOU ARE LUCID!

So what are everyone else's experiences? :)

Not really an obvious RC but related to your one. I was JD in a dream a few nights ago, Turk was there also. At no point did I think, "Wait a sec, I'm not JD, that's right, I'm Goldney...

Here's a good one, this was a couple years ago.

I was having a dream where I was walking around some random apartment complex with no clothes on. Being nude didn't seem to bother me any, though. Anyway, I run into these four guys who snicker and make some remark about me walking around naked. I say, "Haha, yeah, usually when I'm walking around naked it means that I'm dreaming, but I know I'm not dreaming right now!" I then say goodbye and start to walk up this flight of stairs. When I reach the top of the stairs I reflect back on what just happened and think "Hmmm, wait a minute...." then I suddenly wake up. :P

Before I new about lucid dreaming I had dreams where I was talking to people and saying I was dreaming, but I didn't understand that I really was dreaming. The sad thing is, that since I learned what lucid dreaming is, I have not been able to have a lucid dream.

I was in a dream once, and I was having a conversation with my brother, and he said something along the lines of "Yeah, you mean kind of like in a Lucid Dream.". Everytime in Real life, when I hear someone say Lucid Dreaming, I do a RC, but for some reason, it didn't even dawn on me to do it in the dream.

When I was little, I would have lots of LDs.  In those dreams I would always have magical powers, liek being able to close a door with a wave of my hand.  Anyway, I got used to ti and now in my waking life, I will try to close a door with my hand as a reality check.  Sometimes when I go into a dream and the "magic" works, I'm like "well finnaly, I don't know why it hasn't been wokring before" hehe.  I think I need a new Rc :P

Nice thread lol.  I frequently wake up in the morning angry with myself that i didnt become lucid from obvious things.

The worst one ever was when i dreamed i was on a team bus on an overseas tour when the bus flooded with water suddenly and everyone scrambled out.  I sat down on the side of the road with a friend and he said 'you know, we could jsut fly there', and i was like 'wat are you talking about, you cant jsut fly there you idiot'.  He replies 'yes i can, its a dream i can do whatever i want'.  I then said 'no its not a dream, your not dreaming, you cant fly'.

I can't tell you how angry i was when i woke up and remembered that.

LOL Chris. Yep, I can definitley relate to waking up and thinking 'Damn! you should of gone lucid then'...also rolling over between dreams and tutting after obvious missed opportunities.

The most recent one I can recall took place in a space station, and there were two scientists with me...they had been there for months are were REALLY low on morale. One of them lost it basically, and threw a dense object at a thin part of the station and it ripped a hole in the wall....now obviously everyone would have died pretty much instantly in reality...and thus, even in my dream I made the comment scoffingly to the two scientists "Haha you idiots, this is obviously a dream, otherwise we'd all be dead."

Naturally, I woke up and realised who the real idiot was.

Ahh...obvious missed lucid opportunities....

You gotta love those dreams where you are discussing lucid dreaming with DCs and telling them how good you are at it and even dicussing RCs.

I just had one of those dreams.

But my all time favorite was when I dreamed I was with a DV member and we were in a flying car. We were jumping out of the car and aiming for certain parts of the clouds. The reward for landing on these parts of the clouds was becoming lucid.     Duh...

After last nights dream, I was going to start this thread - then it turns out it exists already. OK, here's my example of one missed opportunity after another:

I am in the process of waking. I choose to envision myself in my childhood home in bed, a trick I have successfully used before to "teleport" to my old bedroom. I decide to focus most on bed position, since I had the room arranged a few diffferent ways over time. I am expecting an east/west orientation, but get a north/south orientation when I open my eyes. I think to myself "OK, I did it". Then I rationalize that I'm travelling time. Rather than think about the imossibility of that event, I start thinking about the last episode of Star Trek TNG, where Picard is travelling through time via Q's intervention. I sympothize with Picards problem because this is very confusing.

I then think to myself that I should go back to sleep. I decide I should put on my REM dreamer even though I haven't used it in a while. I look around for this device, but of course I didn't even own it back then.

I wake (FA). I role over and acknowlegde my wife in bed. She's awake and I scratch her arm a little and think to myself what an odd dream that was and how I missed a few opportunities for lucidity.

I then wake for real. I proceed to kick myself in the ass several times  >:(

I missed a bunch of obvious opportunities last night too. The good news is these sequences of missed opportunities usually preceed a sequence of good lucidity events. We'll see?

Old thread, but still.....

2 nights ago, I was running on ice, and it broke up and I was running on water...  Really?  Did I think THAT was normal?
