Dreamer Girl
« on: December 14, 2008, 11:42:01 PM »
Thought I'd add this to the Wall, maybe become a collection of dream inspired poetry or other random dream related textual meanderings.

This is a poem I wrote about a decade ago? My, my time does fly. Can't believe it's been that long. Back on track, it's a freeverse I wrote after a particularly inspirational dream of speaking with a poet as we were both sat and patiently waited for the sun to rise. I don't think it ever did. Anyway, I woke up, recalled the dream, scribbled out the following so quickly that it was as if I were auto writing. This poem popped back into my head the other day when someone called me their dream girl, hahaha... haha.

Dreamer Girl

Little dreamer girl with starry eyes,
Hoping heart soaring high,
Who will catch you when you fall?
You chance to dance cross velvet
Of some midnight Never Land,
Cradling in spectral arms
Never to be fates,
Loving nothing reveries
Of contrived by you prince charmings,
Glass slippers found upon your feet
Until the dance is done.
Until the dawn does come
To shatter crystal shoes.
Who will catch you when you fall
Upon the fractured parts of real,
When all you cling insanely to
Are little girl dreams
Of loves untried,
And lives inside
The universe of you?
Your hopes of happily ever afters,
Mirage lovers and ever laughters,
Of rainbow laden Eden skies
Keep you secretive and sole.
That is why I love you so
Little dreamer girl.
Should stars start falling
From your eyes...
Your heart start slipping
From velvet highs...
I will catch you when you fall.

oooh, that's good.  I like it a lot.  ... you wrote this off the top of your head??
...in the search of flow.

That was beautiful, Vex.  I'd love to hear a reading of it... or might try reading and recording it myself.  We'll see.

I found that part particularly touching.  There are some "little girl dreams" I still cling to :)
Returning to the basics... again.

So I sketched up the psycho floppy hat guy from my dream the other night. It's vaguely what he looked like, but wrinklier and with scragglier hair. And also, he didn't look so much like the bag lady my sketch kind of  portrays him as.  :-[
In my defense it's been a long time since I whipped out the sketchbook and charcoals.

He doesn't have even a hint of bag lady to my eyes.

Nice rendering.

Thanks.
I think I'll call him old Scrag since I didn't catch his name in dream.

I'm oblivious--this is the first I've seen the poem up there.  I was going to put a crying smiley, but that doesn't seem genuine.  Love it.  Reminds me of your music box, for some reason!

I don't know how accurate the sketch is, but it's pretty damn good for someone who hasn't whipped out the sketchbook for some time.  My god, it seems like he's had a rough day..  O_O

Thanks mu. That poem spilled right out of me like the poetry and the singing did in the music box dream. Maybe there's a musical poet locked away inside me just dying to get out.

And thanks about the drawing. It's not totally accurate, a basic rendering of the guy. In the dream he was even more wrinkly and grungy looking. Looked like he'd have a few thousand rough days.

I almost forgot to jot this down today.

Monday night, August 16th, I was a passenger in a vehicle. As usual I was just staring out the window watching the world whip by. We came near to the neighborhood I used to live in when I was a little kid. As we approached the train station I told the others in the vehicle that when I was 5 or 6 I used to ride my bike the several blocks to the station just to watch the trains roar past. Crazy, I'd never let a 5 or 6 year old of mine ride his or her bike all over town like that these days. I mentioned how lucky I was that some crazyass bastard didn't snatch me off the street.

We pulled up to the corner beside the train station. I turned my attention from the building to the road ahead of me. On the sidewalk to the left I saw someone who looked frighteningly familiar. I was wearing sunglasses and pretended to stare straight ahead even though I was actually staring at this person strolling up the sidewalk. He looked just like my old Scrag drawing from earlier. And he was looking right at me the entire time.

The light turned green. Scrag got to the corner, still staring at me. I still pretended to stare straight ahead. I was incredibly uncomfortable with this guy looking at me. As we drove past him he tilted his head down in greeting and smiled at me. I looked into the passenger side mirror and watched as he rounded the corner and disappeared. It wasn't until then that I realized I'd been holding my breath. I let out a big gush of air and kind of laughed.

The driver looked at me and said, "What you laughing at."

I promptly bit my finger a few times and laughed again. "I just saw someone from one of my dreams... I think." I looked at him and said, "Don't worry, you don't have to say it. I already know it. I'm going crazy."

I got to wondering if I'd known this man when I was a little kid. If he had lived in that neighborhood his whole life I probably happened across him a time or two when I was out on my little solo exploration adventures. If I had seen him before, he must have made some sort of impact on me to have dreamed about him all these years later.

Strangeness.

That really is a beautiful poem Vex.

As to your odd guy. Sure, he may be someone from your past. But it is still one heck of a coincidence how you were compelled to put up this post and sketch, and then within a day or two you saw him.

Yes, strangeness.
