A lot of people have found that to be true, bb.  It's the same mechanism as melatonin, etc; if you suppress REM early, you have more later.  If you know what delerium tremens are (alcoholic hallucinations), it's from suppressing REM so much that dreaming occurs while awake.  The brain has to have a certain amount of REM.

That shouldn't induce lucidity though right? Just more dreams or more vivid dreams? Any ideas if and why it might affect lucidity?

As one who briefly worked in the realm of addiction counseling, Bluebird, I must warn you not to try these alcohol induced lucid dreams too often. I think the reasoning behind this is obvious. One does not want to let their body become dependent on any drug in order to achieve a certain effect.

For the B-vitamins, the recommended dose is anything below but close to 200 mg of B6, and perhaps 200 mcg of B12. The ideal amount of B6 is 250 mg, but taking that amount straight up in pill form creates an effect not unlike a bad hangover. I recommend supplementing your diet with foods high in tryptophan to fill the gap. Here's a great article on the subject: http://lucidallnight.wordpress.com/2008/01/04/how-to-make-a-dream-more-vivid-the-true-b6-story/

Oh no don't worry about that, I drink alcohol anyway about once a week to socialize with some friends and relax, I don't deliberately take it for any effect, including LD's. Thanks for the friendly heads up though :) Thanks a lot for the article, I already eat a lot of bananas, nuts and chicken so hopefully that is helping, might try to squeeze in a few more of those foods too. I'll probably avoid taking it in pill form unless I need to

19th March 2012

I take a holiday to France on a ferry. Can't remember too much of what I did there, but I know I met some people and hung out with them. I also know that there are some bad guys that are hiding some sort of secret, and I must steal it from them. I am staying in a house with some girl above a shop, when I walk in some guy walks out suspiciously and I remember thinking that she might be a prostitute. I ask her to show me around a bit before I leave, so she takes me to some bars.

I hear talk about some sort of big secret, I'm not sure what it was but I think it was something that would have got me lucid if I had captured it (so the secret was it was a dream?). There seems to be a lot of evil people, and I don't manage to take them down on my own so I decide it's time to leave. For some reason there is a problem with the ferries, so I won't be able to make it back. I see a pretty girl in the hotel and chat with her a bit asking her to teach me to swim. She obliges, and walks out of the hotel with me. There is a big queue of customers and they all seem angry at this so I guess the girl was hotel staff.

As we are walking towards the docks, I say something about kissing her and she smiles so I do. I think I then mentioned sex, at which point she giggled but said there is no way she would do it here. Being non-lucid, I give up and we continue to head to the water so that I can swim back to Britain. She takes me to a shipping container and steps around the back. I peek and see a small black box there on the floor. Oh god it's a BOMB! I quickly jump backwards just before the shipping container explodes into a giant fireball. The girl takes off on a motorbike and I am unable to stop her.

I start swimming back and I am doing an ok job. My Father is with me now, and we are both swimming and heading for an island. I start to lose my confidence, but Dad holds on to my arm and saves me. There is also another woman here who is a lifeguard or something, who keeps shouting swimming instructions to me and helping me swim. When we make it to the island, she talks to us and introduces us to some people. We head to the pub with them and after a while I decide it's time to go home. I am suddenly in London, and Dad is no longer with me. I am trying to find the train station to get home but I have no idea where I'm going. I come across a church of young children singing, I stop and listen for a bit until I get bored and then I carry on with my search.

I take a wrong turn and end up in a suburban area, and I can't seem to find my way back to the city. I also can't see a tube station anywhere, which people who have been to London will know it's not that hard to find one. I then see a big lake, which is very intriguing to me. It has an elevator down to the water level, as well as a steep cliff. There is also some sort of crashed boat or plane, which is how I suddenly find myself in the lake. I swim out of the wreckage and over to the other side. There is suddenly a man sitting on top of a rock on the cliff. I say hello and ask him how to get out. His friend comes over and says something vague like "There are many ways out" but then tells me he gets out by rock climbing.

So I climb up the rocks and find myself at the top, alone with the first guy. He starts to tell me an interesting story, apparently this is his lucid dream rock (D'OH) and he comes here every night for his dreaming. He apparently dives into the water, swims for a while before coming back to his rock and falling asleep. I find it quite fascinating, there is so much I want to learn from this guy. I hang out with him and his friends (back to the pub!) and I turn the conversation back to lucid dreaming. I say "So do you use the WILD method or the other one, the D-I-L-D?". I wasn't sure whether to pronounce them as words or letters so I went for a bit of both hoping he wouldn't notice. He looked at me and just goes "Um...". I explain the definitions and he still doesn't look sure. I start to wonder whether this joker is legit or not...

The conversation changes to unemployment, and a weather report style program comes on the TV, showing red and orange areas for high unemployment, and yellow for kind of normal places. I am relieved to see that my town is only yellow. While I'm here, I meet another girl who I take a liking to, a beautiful blonde girl. I start chatting to her and she seems friendly, but she tells me she has a boyfriend. Apparently he is a sadist and likes to abuse her, I feel sorry for her and at the same time wonder why she would stay with an asshole like that. She says "If you like you can come to dinner with us tonight and get to know him". She glares at me, pressuring me to respectfully decline this invitation, so I get the hint and say no.

Interesting how I spoke to Costly and told him that my DS include swimming, elevators, running away. I get all of those things in a dream and what do I do...nothing :P I'll get you next time, lucidity!

I think it's amazing how focused your mind must be on this, to dream about it all the time.  (Not to mention how many times you've gotten lucid.)

Thank you :) My SC has been nice to me so far

Elevators is a good one.  Do you take them often IWL?  If you do then every time you are in an elevator, do a RC.
Also it seems like you dream about others telling you about lucidity.  Do you talk to others about it IWL?  If you do then do a RC every time you talk about lucidity IWL.
Other than that you seem to have a LD every other night.  Especially the last LD you had, when you just snapped yourself into it - like goku going super sayian 1 in later episodes (like not a big deal).  Keep rocking!  :goodjob:

I don't ever take elevators in real life, I live in a small town that doesn't really have any. But I find thinking about where I need to RC is enough, my main bottleneck is awareness in dreams right now, so that's what I need to work on next.

Thanks for your support :) Hopefully you will catch up and overtake me in the near future!

By my current average I should be due a lucid any day now, so sit tight and trudge on through my boring non lucids for now if you are interested :)

20th March 2012

I am at some sort of family gathering, I can't tell what it's for but I believe it is a funeral for my grandma (thankfully she is still with us IWL though). Everyone is chatting and there is a barbecue with food, but my Grandad is sitting alone at a bench, not talking to anyone or moving. He looks unbelievably depressed. I already know what is wrong, he is upset because his wife has died and he knows that it will be his time soon. This, in turn, makes me upset also. I walk over to talk to him and he just says "Go away and leave me alone". I can't remember what I said back, but it was enough to convince him to actually talk to me.

I walk away and he says "Wait... Pull up a chair kiddo". I grab a plastic garden chair and sit next to him. We start talking for a bit when I notice we are next to the ocean. I watch the waves, they look very different to IWL but I do not catch on. They are much bigger and darker, and are moving side to side instead of out and in. I remember being worried that we are far too close to the waves. After I think that, the tide comes in and I tell Grandad we have to leave as it's too dangerous. As we are scrambling off the beach the tide gets worse. It sweeps my Grandad out to sea. I scream and jump in to try and save him. However as quickly as it came, the tide goes out again and he is lost.

My family come running over to see what happened. I don't tell them anything, instead I am staring at lots of strange inscriptions in the sand. There are some words, as well as a picture of a man and a woman holding a balloon. I also find various pieces of metal (big nuts and bolts) as well as a claymore MINE!?!? I decide it's not best to dig around any longer, so I stop playing about with it. I also assume that the metal was to allow metal detectors to find this buried stuff...very weird. I follow these clues and it leads me into a building. Here I meet a butler, and a chef. They are preparing food (maybe for the funeral) while I try and solve this puzzle.

I go home where I am staying with my friend J. He doesn't have a couch, so I push together two armchairs for me to sleep on, seems comfy enough. He has big massive windows all around his living room which you can see out of. I ask him to leave the curtains open as I quite like the view and I don't really care if people can see me, he obliges and bids me goodnight. It is now the morning in the dream, and I head back to the building alone to try and find out more about what happened.

There is an article on the news that is saying something lost treasure. I guess this is referring to the stuff that I found on the beach. I talk to the butler about what is happening, and he says he doesn't know much as he only just started working here. I then go and talk to the chef about it. The chef is down a staircase (that leads out to a stadium???) so I walk down the steps and start talking to him. The butler is watching us from the top of the stairs. I mention that the butler didn't know anything and the chef says "Are you talking about Tom? I don't think Tom told you anything". I turn to the butler, Tom, and say "What does he mean?" The scene goes dark and sombre and the butler says "Tom has been dead for 20 years".

I am horrified by this, I panic and run away. I reunite with the chef who hands me a knife and a sharpener so I can fight this guy. However he passes it to me blade first and I cut myself. The butler seems nice enough, he grabs some toilet paper and asks me how many pieces to stop the bleeding. I say 3, then he grabs 3 pieces and folds that in half. When he lets go, it suddenly has a poster drawn with my blood! It looks horrifying. He tosses it away and walks towards me. My perspective changes and I see a girl catch the poster. I knew this was bad news, as soon as she caught it a lorry/truck came along and killed her. I don't recall going back to the scene with me in it.

---

I wake and fall back to sleep, where I dream of being in a McDonalds store somewhere that I do not recognise. I work at McDonald's part time IWL so I ask them if I can make my own food and they say yes. I head into the back where I am staring at the options available. Some guy is shifting big heavy boxes around which is starting to annoy me as he is getting in the way. It is taking me a long time to decide what I want to eat, but the other workers don't seem to be getting annoyed so I continue to decide. I finally settle for chicken nuggets, however as I go to put them in the bag I notice they have cheese melt dippers, so I decide to get those instead. However one of them has burst and there is cheese everywhere! I scoop the cheese out as well as the other dippers, and take my bag to go and pay for it.

---

Fragment: Cooking curry but accidentally making spaghetti instead of rice, I wonder whether it will still work or if my meal will be ruined.

---

Fragment: On a bus and the driver turns sideways too quickly, the bus topples over and everyone goes flying

---

Dreams are starting to scare me now, I hope this stuff about my Grandparents is not some sort of premonition. Not sure if there is any deeper meaning in there too. Also I am almost 20 years old which is how long 'Tom' has been dead for. Who is Tom anyway? What does this all mean?

Nice how your dreams change days and dont just end or switch direction

Didn't you have dream where a truck killed your friend?  DS? Do a RC every time you see a truck IWL?

It is not a premonition.  It shows that you are afraid of your grand parents dying, not that they will or not.  Who is Tom?  Do I hear a new assignment for your next LD? I think so!  Ask some dream characters about him.  Find out who he is. Ask them to bring him back.  Good luck!

Again I have the problem of never really seeing trucks in real life :sad1: it's weird how I always seem to dream about things I don't see IWL.

Great idea! Thanks I will see if I can remember to do it :D

No trucks? No elevators? Where the hell do you live?  :D

Try roads?  Trucks drive on roads.
Try entering and exiting a building?  Elevators are in buildings.

Curry noodles sounds wonderful!  I love those Sze Chuan style noodles with peanut sauce.
