Get out there and catch this heavenly duo before the moon sets tonight.
 :D

Some clouds tonight, but clear skies between the clouds.  Saw this briefly when they were in a clear spot.  :)

Glad you caught it. Lovely, wasn't it?

Total cloud cover for me.

Favourite of the summer will be the Perseids in mid-August!  We are usually at camp, with near dark sky conditions. :ya:

Cool! I wish this was happening during my vacay to the lake. I'll miss the peak by a week. Here's to no c-word on peak night.

Ah!  The "other" c-word.  All night sky enthusiasts know what that one is.

Went out last night.  Saw about 10 shooting stars.  It was cold, so didn't stay out long.  They didn't look like I remember.  Most likely due to too much light pollution, but perhaps it means I'm dreaming.

Lots of light pollution here too mentalenforcer. Plus very bright light of a nearly full moon makes for less than stellar meteor shower observation conditions.

It was cloudy around here for most of the night. When I went out at around 2am most of the clouds had cleared. Within 10 seconds of stepping onto my front porch I saw a gorgeous fireball zip across the sky. I didn't stay out for very long either, saw a few wispy falling stars. It was pretty cold and I was too lazy to get a jacket or blanket to keep me warm. Wish I had someone who would sit out with me on nights like last night, bring me a jacket and a cup of  hot chocolate to keep warm.

That's awesome! I sat on the beach by the surf one night last week and watched for falling stars. Didn't see any but thought it would be amazing to be out on the lake during a good meteor shower. Maybe I'll try to make plans for a night cruise next August shower.

Venus and Jupiter will be close together tomorrow morning before dawn.

Also, there are some close-up views of the comet now.

At what point exactly do I admit to putting glasses on, putting my laptop about 6 feet away, and crossing my eyes to see the 3-D image?  AND, it being the highlight of my day? :-[

Tonight, Neptune will be at opposition, which means it will be at its brightest.  Look for it towards the NE near the Milky Way.
