I love meteor showers! And no problem staying up till then... I stay up that late all the time. I blame it on my teenage brain.

Meteor shower wasn't very impressive from where I was. Did spot a couple, which is better than none I suppose. Was nice to sit out in the dark and quiet too. Been a while since I did that. Was not a night wasted.

I was really tired so I only watched for about 15 minutes after 2. Saw four shooting stars, and one of them was so big and bright that I could see it's tail and the trail of smoke it left. Even without the shooting stars though the night was beautiful. I live out in the country so stars are plentiful but I'd never seen such a clear, starry night as this. It was awesome!

Nice. The ones I saw were very faint, wondered if I'd even seen them at all. I tried to get photos too but sadly the opportunity wasn't there. Much light pollution around my place too which added to problem. But Like i said earlier, it was a gorgeous night.

Went out last night and tried to spot and photography Mercury. I think I saw it but as it got darker I noticed that it had a reddish tinge. So now I think it might have been Aldebaran.

I stayed up for the meteor shower, and kept going outside to check for a few minutes.  Didn't see any though.

I feel very responsible for your disappointing evening. I will make it up to you. If we are ever lucid together I'll conjure up the mother of all meteor storms just for you via lucid voodoo.

This is pretty cool. Don't believe I've seen this combo before. Worth getting up early for in my humble opinion. Anyone else going to get up for this or am I the only weirdo going to be standing outside before dawn on the front lawn staring at the shiny things in the sky?

I probably will.  This is in 2.5 months?

Yessir. But leading up to this it's possible to watch the two planets creep closer and closer to one another in the early morning sky... if you're willing to repeatedly get up that early.

August 18th is a Monday... of all the days of the week for something this to happen on it has to be a Monday.

Took a night trot and the 'star' above the moon kept drawing my attention. I didn't know what it was, it didn't fit in with surrounding constellations. Got home and discovered this from Sky & Telescope:



Get out there and catch this heavenly duo before the moon sets tonight.

Some clouds tonight, but clear skies between the clouds.  Saw this briefly when they were in a clear spot.
