I missed that *points to post directly above*
(and of course this post would be at the top of a new thread after I post *points directly above*)

Binocular Comet Lovejoy heading our way: http://www.skyandtelescope.com/astronomy-news/observing-news/binocular-comet-lovejoy-heading-c2014-q2-lovejoy-1211142/
I've been out looking for this but there is too much light pollution. And since its the holidays and everyone is either busy, tired, or bitchy, I can't get anyone to take me to a decent dark sky site.  :'(

January 31st it will be close to Lepus's nose but by then the moon will be interfering with viewing. So I've got from now till the 28th to try see it.
After that the best time, according to the article, to see it will be Jan 7th and after. It should start glowing brightest for its best two weeks, as it crosses Taurus and Aries high in early evening.

Venus and Mercury are approaching one another (from our viewpoint).  The evening of the 10th they will be the closest.  Venus is easy to find, Mercury is much dimmer.

Also I heard comet Lovejoy is bright enough to see without binoculars, and is passing to the right of Orion.

I saw the Venus Mercury thing tonight, I think. I was on the way home from Wacky Wings and looked to the Western horizon. There was still a faint bit of sunglow and saw Venus sparkling away. I noticed another star lower to the right of it and wondered what the heck that was. I whipped out my handy pocket universe app and checked. I think it might have been Mercury. Hope the clouds stay away tomorrow night so I can get a better look.

First night of mostly clear skies round here but I still can't see the comet with the naked eye. I tried to photograph that section of the sky hoping I'd catch the comet digitally but it was too cold for me. My fingertips froze in no time. Plus the light pollution junked up my images and made it hard to focus. I will try again tomorrow. Hope the cloudy weather forecast is wrong.

Jupiter is looking good out there tonight tho.

I don't understand the "what my wife thinks I do" panel.  Can someone explain that one?

I think it means the guy's wife thinks he's out screwing around on her for hours in the middle of the night instead of star gazing.

Thanks.  I could not figure that one out at all.  Is the guy him?  Is the girl his wife?  Is he seeing the couple through his telescope?  Who is the guy shushing?

I only guessed it was that because I received The Accusation a couple of times a while back when I sneaked out at 3am to watch meteor showers.

Agreed! I saw it coming home from Walmart, and it was near the horizon and humongous. Very cool. :D

This morning I watched the Perseids a little while.  Saw maybe a dozen.

It's the Perseids big night tonight here....  I plan to watch for a bit tomorrow night, at WBTB.  Gonna be a great one, as almost new moon this year!

Solar eclipse! Looks like I'm gonna have to travel a bit if I'm gonna go see it though, it won't cross my state. But by then I should have enough money to do that sort of thing.  8)

I'm lucky.  It's only a 2 hour drive for me.  I haven't figured out where to see it yet though.
